William Hill is to follow a number of rival operators by withdrawing from Poland in response to the introduction of new gambling laws in the country.

In a letter issued to affiliates and customers in Poland, the bookmaker said it will cease operations in the country prior to April 1.

Players have until April 1 to withdraw remaining balances from their accounts, after which they will have to go thorough customer service to obtain funds.

In addition, William Hill has instructed all affiliates to remove any marketing material directed at Polish consumers from their websites.

However, despite confirmation of the exit, the bookmaker said it intends to return to the market in the future.

In December, the Polish government granted approval to the new Gambling Act that will introduce a 12% tax on wagering turnover.

Operators have hit out at the new regulations, claiming that the high rate of tax makes the Polish market unprofitable.

In response, a number of operators have confirmed they will cease operations in the country on April 1, with EnergyBet having announced its withdrawal earlier this week.

Totalizator Sportowy will remain the monopoly in Poland, with total control over the online gaming market.
