UEFA Champions League Match Day 6

The Group Stage process of this season's UEFA Champions League comes to and end this week and with three groups still to be decided, there is still plenty of interest as match day six rapidly approaches.

Groups B, C and F have yet to be fully decided, with only Barcelona and Manchester City staking their claim within Round of 16 so far. PSG, Liverpool, Napoli, Tottenham, Inter Milan, Lyon and Shaktar all have huge matches on Tuesday and Wednesday night, as each attempt to keep their European dreams alive.

The remaining fixtures should see an influx of reserves throughout each clubs starting elevens, the opportunity to cash large underdogs will increase immensely, as the majority of the remaining contests have little meaning going forward.

Liverpool vs Napoli
Anfield, Liverpool, England
12-11-2018 - 3:00 pm ET - Univision

The featured match on Tuesday's card takes place at Anfield under the lights. The famed stadium is no stranger to such big events. With an extensive list of historic matches being played at the English landmark, this match day six affair should easily go down as another memorable event.

Liverpool have made life difficult on themselves in pursuit of another finals appearance. The "Reds" sit in a dicey predicament, needing either PSG to draw or lose against bottom of the table side Red Star Belgrade, while also defeating Napoli by a possible 2 goal margin.

Jurgen Klopp is ever the optimist, the German head-man has not lost hope in his EPL league leaders advancing through into the knock-out phase. Klopp has been involved in several pulsating fixtures while on the sidelines at Anfield and Tuesday night should only motivate him to get his troops across the finish line, and keep this famous club playing in front of the world's eyes.

Klopp was helped out over the weekend and rested a few key members during Liverpool's 0-4 dismantling of Bournemouth. The English giants should have all hands on deck for this must win situation.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will carry much of the Reds burden as they attempt this massive resurgence. Liverpool's front line trio are starting to find their rhythm after a sluggish start to the new campaign, with each competing in this Summer's World Cup there was a definite adjustment period for each to round into form.

Salah had felt the most pressure in the opening months of the season. The Egyptian winger was struggling to find the back of the net, but the EPL's reigning MVP has caught fire as of late, bagging 6 goals in his last 7 outings in all competitions, including a "Hat Trick" this past Saturday, giving the loyal Reds faithful plenty of optimism he can carry his red hot streak over into Tuesday nights fixture.

TIP: Mohamed Salah  -110 / 1.91 - Anytime Goal Scorer

The hosts will have plenty of decisions to make on their midfield selection, with Naby KeitaFabinhoJames Milner, Jordan Henderson and Georgino Wijnaldum all in contention to get the starting nods. Klopp will have his toughest decision to make based on these specific players. With only three spots available in the home sides 4-3-3 formation, each are fully deserving of a spot on the pitch for this massive affair.

Liverpool will certainly lean on their backline members to help keep the Italians of the final scoreline. The purchases of Virgil van Dijk and GK - Alisson were made for these specific matches. After consistently dropping points due to a shaky defensive spine, the Reds made strategic purchases over the last year to help sure up their back-end deficiencies, as they attempt to collect more trophies to place in their impressive collection.

Napoli land in the northern England only needing a draw or better to advance through into the Round of 16. The Serie A runner-ups have been the surprise side of Group C, failing to lose a match through the first 5 weeks of competition. They have proven to be a well organized unit who do not crack under the pressures of European nights.

Carlo Ancelotti is the perfect figure head for this particular moment. The three time Champions League winner has seen every scenario available during his storied managerial career, giving the "Gli Azzurri" faithful plenty of confidence their club can overcome this monumental challenge and place their names in the final sixteen draw.

The Blues made strategic changes during their domestic match over the weekend as Ancelotti chose to sit many of his regular starters ahead of their trip to Merseyside. Now with the bulk of his team fully rested, there will be no excuses for the Italians leaving Anfield without at least a share of the spoils.

The Neapolitans will step onto the pitch with their own set of world class front-line members. Aligned within a 4-4-2 formation, Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne have starred during their time in the Southern city, providing the club with two dynamic figures who are equally as dangerous moving forward in attack. With 6 combined Champions League goals the visitors have two key figures who can always hit the back of the net.

Napoli's midfield will be just as important over the course of 90 minutes, wanting to control the tempo as best they can do based on the circumstances. Allan and Marek Hamsik will assume more of the workman like duties, while Marek Hamsik and José Callejón will be called upon for their ball handling skills and offensive prowess while on Liverpool's side of the pitch, giving the visitors real class while in possession of the ball.

Center-back Kalidou Koulibaly may be the most important member of Napoli's starting eleven. The Senegalese defender will have his hands full containing Liverpool's wave of attackers, being able to cut passes off before they become truly threatening, while helping block shots on goal will go along way in this match day six outcome.

David Ospina returns to England for this Group Stage finale. The former Arsenal keeper finally got his chance at first team minutes. After sitting in the wings for several seasons with the Gunners, the Colombian has found his true place within the Gli Azzurri in goal. Ospina's experience against his former EPL rivals should come in handy, as he should not be overwhelmed by Liverpool's relentless style of play.

Liverpool vs Napoli - Match Prediction

The stage has been set for another Champions League everlasting moment, with Liverpool not only needing win, but possibly even by as much as a 2 goal margin. The Premier League side should be on the front foot early and often, while the Italians will wait for their own spots to pounce, as they attempt to crash the Reds party.

Liverpool understand the obstacle ahead of them against their Italian counter-parts. The Neapolitan's held the Englishmen scoreless while at the Stadio San Paolo on match-day 2, locking down on the Reds dynamic attack and snatching all 3 points in the dying moments for a 1-0 final result.

The hosts are a different side while on their own pitch. Few clubs feed off the energy of their passionate supporters like Liverpool, scoring 7 goals in just 2 home matches to date. Expect an aggressive high pressing style of play as they attempt to cause turnovers, which leads to their patented counter attacking style of play where they are most dangerous.

Napoli are well equipped to handle Liverpool's electric attack. The Italians themselves are highly capable of absorbing the oncoming pressure, using their overall athleticism to recover from vulnerable positions, and springing their own ruthless counter attack into effect, where they have truly excelled under the guidance of Ancelotti. The visitors know they only need one quality shot on goal to turn Liverpool's dream upside down. And, with a ruthless front-line that generally finish their shots on goal, it will be hard to see this Napoli side being held scoreless during their time at Anfield.

I expect Liverpool to come out full of energy, wanting to grab that early first goal, and then attempt to separate as the match wears on. I anticipate the Reds hitting the back of the net before the halftime whistle blows and taking a 1-0 type of lead into the locker room. The second half is where we should see this match really open up, as the Italians will be forced to take more chances, with both teams combining for 32 shots per match, I project each club swapping goals in the final 45 plus minutes.
