Believe it or not, the Detroit Lions have a chance to sweep the Green Bay Packers for the first time since the 1991 season. They get together on Thursday night at Ford Field in the Motor City.

Well, it took a while, but the Detroit Lions have finally woken up and look like they are ready to resemble, at least in some ways, the team that made the NFC playoffs last season. Yes, it's probably a little too late to inject themselves into the wild-card race, but they can get a lot of satisfaction on Thursday night with a victory over the Green Bay Packers, because it would constitute their first sweep of the Pack since 1991. These teams will get things underway at 8:25 PM ET at Ford Field in Detroit, with television provided by both CBS and the NFL Network. As BetAnySports customers watch the action, they can also place wagers in real-time through the considerable facilities of Live Betting Extra.

NFL Thursday Night football oddsDetroit started season losing five in a row, and only a fortunate overtime victory over the Chicago Bears at home prevented them from losing their first eight games. There was some housecleaning along the way, as both assistant coaches and executives were fired. And when Detroit came out of its bye week, the Lions looked as if they were ON fire. What has followed his three straight victories (including an 18-16 win at Lambeau Field three weeks ago), during which time the Lions have surrendered only 43 points. Currently they are 4-7 straight-up, and 4-6-1 against the football pointspread.

Green Bay, interestingly enough, has been going in something of an opposite direction. The Packers started the season with six straight wins, covering the first five against the points, but they have now lost four of their last five straight-up, giving them a record of 7-4 SU and 6-5 against the number. They are currently on of 1-5 spread run.

In the Thursday night NFL odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, Green Bay is a favorite on the road:

Green Bay Packers -2.5 (-101)
Detroit Lions +2.5 (-109)

Over 47 points -105
Under 47 points -105

Yes, there is something to be said for a matchup between one team that seems to have a lot of momentum and another that doesn't have any at all. But the Packers were in this situation a couple of weeks ago, as they wrote a three-game losing streak into Minneapolis, while the Vikings had covered eight straight games. The result was a 30-13 Green Bay victory, so you don't want to write these guys off under any circumstances.

Green Bay Packers NFL bettingCertainly there are some problems the Packers have to address; Davante Adams has not worked out as well as was hoped at the third receiver spot, and he reinforced that last week in the 17-13 Thanksgiving loss to the Chicago Bears. Adams was targeted 11 times and caught only two passes. BetAnySports patrons know that Aaron Rodgers really needs to be able to spread the ball around to be more effective.

In the category of "good news," it looks like the Packers running game is back. We say that because Eddie Lacy has gained a total of 205 yards over the last two games. That would seem to be a distinct advantage they have over Detroit, which has struggled most of the season to mount a ground attack. However, the Lions have had their only two 100-yard rushing games during this three-game winning streak. Getting some balance would make the offense, with Matthew Stafford heating up along with Calvin Johnson, even more dangerous.
