SatoshiBet to block US customers

Bitcoin gambling website SatoshiBet has announced that will no longer allow customers from the US to access its various services.

In an announcement on social media network Reddit, the operator cited uncertainty over the future of US gambling regulation and future legal issues that could prevent US players from accessing services as the main reasons behind the decision to withdraw from the market.

US customers that attempt to access the site are now met with a message that reads: "Your IP appears to be from the United States or another jurisdiction where SatoshiBet does not offer its service.

"You may not access satoshibet.com from the United States or any other excluded jurisdiction. Please contact us for any questions."

In a statement, the company said that its decision to withdraw from the US market is not related to any government action or investigation and is instead based on avoiding any future conflict with US laws.

"To be clear, we have not been in contact with any government institutions. This is solely a proactive measure as a reaction to the fast moving regulatory landscape of cryptocurrencies," the company said, according to the Coindesk.com website.

"This does not mean SatoshiBet or gambling with or without cryptocurrencies is illegal in the US. The definition by US courts is as of yet highly unclear, adding cryptocurrencies to the equation only further clouds a definite judgement.

"All existing US players will get their remaining balance if any returned. Most players deposit/play/withdraw, so the total amount that needs to be returned is fairly reasonable."
