Pala Interactive has foot in the door in New Jersey but not home free yet

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has weighed in on an area of interest to many online gaming players – the suitability of Pala Interactive executive James Ryan, whose company has cut a deal with Borgata.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has weighed in on an area of interest to many online gaming players – the suitability of Pala Interactive executive James Ryan, whose company has cut a deal with Borgata.

A transactional waiver has been issued to Pala, but that "does not constitute final licensing approval," DGE Director David Rebuck notes.

"The super user scandal involving Ultimate Bet raised serious issues about the operation and regulation of online gaming and questions have surfaced as to whether certain senior executives at Pala, including yourself, may have been involved in the matter," Rebuck wrote to Ryan this week.

Ryan was CEO of Excapsa from Jan. 2005 through Nov. 2006 (when UIGEA was passed), but Rebuck writes that "at this time the Division has no evidence that he was aware of, or complicit in, this fraudulent activity.

"One more note: "The preliminary investigation also disclosed that the sponsorship agreement between Pala and Phil Ivey, signed in April 2013, was terminated in June 2014."
