NY Giants co-owner John Mara 'not completely against' sports betting in New Jersey



New Jersey has continued to look for ways to legalize state-sanctioned sports betting in an effort to generate revenue. Last month, the state legislature passed a bill that would repeal old state laws barring sports betting, allowing private companies to open up wagering operations.

Giants CO-owner John Mara reiterated his opposition to New Jersey's most recent attempts to legalize state-sanctioned sports betting on Thursday, although he did relent and say that "if it's helpful for the state," he wouldn't be completely against it.

"Well, certainly we're opposed to it, but let's wait and see what happens," Mara said. "They're trying all these different ways to circumvent the law."
But Mara isn't completely opposed.

"If it's helpful for the state β€” and I have questions about whether it is β€” but if it's helpful for the state, I don't really have a problem with it," he added.
