The Buffalo Bills would love to be known as a high-powered offense, and it's going to be up to EJ Manuel to make some strides. The Bills begin the pre-season against the New York Giants in the Hall of Fame Game on Sunday in Canton.

The Buffalo Bills have tried their best to surround second-year quarterback EJ Manuel with talent. Will it start paying off? We may not find out on Sunday night against the New York Giants (8 PM ET), but it had better start happening at some point for second-year coach Doug Marrone, because an ownership change is imminent and he needs something stronger on his resume than another 6-10 season.

After the death of Ralph Wilson, this team is being unloaded, and one of the contenders to buy it is Donald Trump, who is going to show no patience at all for losing. For whoever buys the team, its is going to be "proving time" for both Marrone and quarterback EJ Manuel.

In the NFL pre-season betting odds on this game, the Bills are favored, according to the folks at BetAnySports:

Buffalo Bills -3 (-105)
New York Giants +3 (-115)

Over 33.5 Points -110
Under 33.5 Points -110

The Bills will look back to the past a little this weekend as one of their best, wide receiver Andre Reed, is enshrined in the Hall of Fame, and quarterback Jim Kelly, who has been stricken with cancer, will be there for his teammate. he will also toss the coin before kickoff.

If this current group of Bills is going to have a rosy future, it is going to have to start with the offense. This team ranked 22nd in the league in points scored and 28th in passing, so EJ Manuel, who was bothered by injuries a bit as a rookie, will need to grow up in a hurry. He threw eleven TD passes with nine interceptions last season, and that wasn't all bad, but his most productive wide receiver from a year ago (Stevie Johnson) was traded to San Francisco.

The good news for Buffalo backers at BetAnySports (where they are +3500 to win the AFC in the NFL betting futures) is that this is a team that has the potential for a lot of firepower. After all, Johnson was somewhat erratic, and he has been replaced. The Bills went out and acquired Mike Williams, a big receiver, for Tampa Bay and drafted the most explosive guy out there in Clemson's Sammy Watkins. Let's not forget that holdover Robert Woods (of USC) was the team's second-round pick last year, and that there could be contributions from Marquise Goodwin, an track and field Olympian out of Texas who has been primarily used as a return man.

On top of that, NFL pre-season bettors should take note that everybody is raving about the job being done by Chris Hogan, who played a rather minor role last season. Running back CJ Spiller seems to have been a disappointment to many, although he has rushed for over 2100 yards over the last two seasons and is one of the few backs who can take it coast-to-coast any time he touches it. This season he will be supported by Bryce Brown, who rushed for 347 yards over his first two NFL starts in 2012. BetAnySports customers who have followed his story know that he can be trouble, but also know how good he can be.

Let's put it this way; at this point nobody knows who is going to wind up owning the Bills, and things have become emotional, with reed himself bad-mouthing one of the bidders, rock star Jon Bon Jovi, who would like to move the team to Toronto. But whoever has the reins when the dust clears, they are not going to accepting many excuses if this squad can't put up enough points to be competitive.
