Last spot in the NL Wild Card race down to last weekend

The final days of the MLB season are here and the remaining spot for the NL Wildcard has to be decided this weekend.

Final Spot in the NL Wildcard Race Up for Grabs

Unfortunately, we're down to the last days of the Major League Baseball season without any divisional race excitement. With exception of the NL Central, all spots have been secured for weeks including the Cleveland Indians historic run to secure their spot. And the Minnesota Twins have pulled away from the dredge of mediocrity in the race for the second AL wild card.

However, we do have something to keep our eyes on with one prize left in the National League remaining to obtain the final position for the NL wildcard. Keep your eyes on all games on the board this weekend for the Colorado Rockies, St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers.

Currently the Colorado Rockies have a slim 1.5 game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers and lead the St. Louis Cardinals by 2.5 games. None of the three teams have played well enough to separate themselves from the pack but except that to change in the remaining match-ups with major incentive. Over the last 10 games, Colorado and St. Louis are 4-6 and Milwaukee is an equally uninspired 5-5. You would have to wonder after playing 150 games or so, who really wants this golden ticket opportunity?

With a 1.5-game lead, the Rockies seemingly own an advantage. In their final five games of the season, they'll finish their series with the Miami Marlins and then face the unpredictable Los Angeles Dodgers. A team with no apparent remaining season incentive that will also likely rest key players in their final series. The Cards on the other hand visit the Chicago Cubs before heading back to St. Louis to take on the Brewers. Fatefully, that final series might indeed decide the final NL wildcard spot. Before visiting St. Louis, the Brewers will meet the uninspired Cincinnati Reds.

Evaluating their schedules tells us that the Rockies have the easiest potential road to a playoff berth of the three teams. Statistically, they are thought to have a 75% chance, the Brewers 14% and the Cardinals 10%. But don't plan a celebration just yet Colorado fans. They're currently +4000 to win the World Series at preferred sportsbook Bovada.
