Ladbrokes Australia has announced it will relocate its operations to the Northern Territory region of the country.

A division of UK bookmaker Ladbrokes, the operator informed customers of its decision via an email, stating that the Ladbrokes.com.au website would now be operating under a licence from the Northern Territory Racing Commission as of today (Wednesday).

Ladbrokes Australia holds a licence from the Norfolk Island Gaming Authority, although the body was stripped of its licence-issuing powers in April.

Earlier this month, Betfair also said it would be moving its Australian business to the Northern Territory and operate under a new licence.

The Northern Territory offers the cheapest gambling licences in Australia.

In the last financial year, the 13 corporate bookmakers based in the region paid A$4.8 million (€3.3 million/US$3.67million) in gaming taxes on turnover of A$9.6 billion.
