International Champions Cup

The annual International Champions Cup has once again arrived and is set to kick-off in Chicago's famed Soldier Field. Many of the largest clubs in the world will grace pitches across three Continents, as we will get a small glimpse of what to expect for the upcoming 2018-2019 campaign. 

The time between the World Cup and league play has provided a shorter window than usual and unfortunately we will miss a large amount of the regular starters on each top level team. But, the opportunity for rising stars to get their turns in the starting eleven, are exciting for many to witness first hand.

The first match on the International Champions Cup docket presents us with a tasty affair, as European giants Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City are set to square off at the historic Soldier field. There is certain to be plethora of explosive players spread through-out the pitch, with each side looking too push the issue, as they work themselves into club form.

Dortmund enter the match-day under a new regime, with Lucien Favre taking over for the "BVB", after the Bundesliga side went through two managers last season. The Swiss head-man is highly thought of within the coaching fraternity, and is expected to get these perennial powers back too their consistent winning ways.

The Germans have made the trip with the majority of their full cast of regulars within the squad, led by American Christian Pulisic, who seems to be in line to play a larger role under Favre, and should be highly motivated to cement his status in the starting eleven on weekly basis.

Manchester City travel to the States at less than full strength, although the English are blessed with a stock-pile of talent throughout their team, many of their higher profiled players are skipping this International tour. 

Pep Guardiola will still field a competitive line-up, high-lighted by German national team snub Leroy Sane, who should be chomping at the bit to get back onto the pitch, and prove he deserved to be in Russia earlier this Summer.

Although Man City come into Friday's contest off the back of an impressive EPL title, I expect this youthful Dortmund side to take this match too the Citizens, and grab the victory in what looks to be a successful stint while on American soil.
