Amaya-owned Rational Group has named former Mr Green chief executive Bo Wänghammar as the new managing director of its PokerStars Casino brand.

Wänghammar, who will begin the role on February 1, will assume responsibility for the overall performance of the PokerStars Casino business and report to Rafi Ashkenazi, chief executive of Amaya.

He joins the firm having most recently served as business development director at Mr Green, prior to which he was chief executive of the online casino brand's operating company.

Earlier in his career, Wänghammar also had a spell with bwin.party.

"We believe Bo is a great addition to Rational Group's senior management team; not only does he have great experience in growing an online casino brand from the ground up, but he has management talent across a range of industries," Ashkenazi said.

Speaking about his appointment, Wänghammar added: "I'm looking forward to taking PokerStars Casino to the next level of growth; as one of the largest and fastest growing online casinos in the world, PokerStars Casino has great potential which I'm eager to deliver on."
