The Alabama Crimson Tide and Clemson Tigers both looked very impressive in earning their way to the national championship game. They will tee it up on Monday night at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.

The Clemson Tigers have gone through their season spotless, and that is commendable. When the first College Football Playoff rankings came out, they were #1 with a bullet, and they have proven to be worthy of it. But in front of them on Monday night will be the Alabama Crimson Tide, who looked like monsters in disposing of Michigan State eleven days ago. They will kick it off with the national title on the line at 8:30 PM ET at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ. ESPN will televise the game live, and BetAnySports customers will have an opportunity to place wagers on the game in real time when they take advantage of the option of Live Betting Extra.

college football championshipAlabama's Nick Saban is after his fifth national championship, while Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, who played on a national champion at Alabama in 1992, is seeking his first. Clemson is 14-0 and 7-5-2 against the football pointspread, while Alabama is 13-1 straight-up and 8-6 ATS. Both of these teams won going away in their semi-final games. Clemson found themselves in a tight game with Oklahoma early, but eventually pulled away for a 37-17 victory in the Orange Bowl, while Alabama never allowed Michigan State to get started on the way to a 38-0 shutout win in the Cotton Bowl that illustrated its defensive dominance.

And the Crimson Tide looked pretty good on offense in that game as well, as Jake Coker, who has sometimes been maligned, completed 25 of 30 passes. In fact, Alabama won going away, even though their Heisman Trophy winner, Derrick Henry, was held to only 75 yards on the ground. Clemson's quarterback, Deshaun Watson, was a prime Heisman Trophy candidate, and he ran for 145 yards against Oklahoma, reinforcing his reputation as the top dual-threat signal-caller in several years.

In the college football betting odds, with reduced juice, posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, Alabama is the favorite:

Alabama Crimson Tide -6.5 (-112)
Clemson Tigers +6.5 (+102)

Over 50.5 points -105
Under 50.5 points -105

Clemson football oddsWhat Clemson brings to the table, more than anything else, is an offense that has some quick striking capabilities and a very reliable ground attack. Watson and his tailback, Wayne Gallman, combined for 295 rushing yards against the Sooners, and on the season Watson is 68% accurate with 31 touchdown passes. Clemson has topped 500 yards of offense in each of its last 10 games, and they have excellent balance as well (283 passing yards, 229 rushing yards per contest). Alabama will most likely key on stopping the run first, because although Clemson has depth at the receiver position, they don't really have a lot of the big-play element. Artavis Scott, the leading receiver, averages only 9.8 yards per reception, and freshman Deon Cain, who would have been the guy to stretch the field (17-yard average) is serving a suspension. What will be rather interesting in this one is the matchup between Clemson's offensive line, which gave up only 16 sacks on the season, and Alabama's defensive front, which registered 50 sacks to lead the nation.

BetAnySports patrons know that a team can't get to this point without being able to play very stiff defense, and Clemson has excellent quarterbacks in the secondary in Mackensie Alexander and Cordrea Tankersley. This team allowed the opposition to complete only 48% of its passes. And Clemson has a pair of defensive ends – Shaq Lawson and Kevin Dodd – who should be able to put some pressure on Alabama quarterback Coker.

But when it comes to defense, it's pretty hard to beat what the Crimson Tide can do. Alabama has given up ten points per game over its last seven outings, and 680 yards TOTAL over its last four. The last six opponents they have faced have rushed for total of 363 yards, and they completely put the clamps on Florida in the SEC title game and Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl (allowed 419 total yards). So you know they have the kind of athleticism that can disrupt what Clemson can do, even with Watson at the controls.
