The Baylor Bears conclude a season they'd probably like to forget as they take on the Boise State Broncos in the Cactus Bowl on Tuesday night.

There was no way the Baylor Bears were going to get past the shocking revelations about sexual assault and abuse on their campus. Art Briles, the head coach, was one of the victims, although of course he claims not to have known anything about it. And even university president Kenneth Starr (yes, THAT Kenneth Starr) resigned as a result. Should they even be playing in a bowl game? Should they even have a program? Unbelievably, things were looking real good for this team through the first half of the season, but then the wheels came off. Now they have a chance for redemption (or at least the remaining players do) as they take on the Boise State Broncos in the Cactus Bowl, which takes place at 10:15 PM ET on Tuesday at Chase Field in Phoenix.

Hell, the stadium itself is even the subject of some controversy, as the Arizona Diamondbacks, who occupy it, have threatened to leave if renovations are not made, and a private investor group has pulled out of a deal to buy the building, raze it, and build a new facility, because the D-Backs are being too unreasonable.

Baylor won the first six games of its season, then lost the last six, and they look like a team that is limping toward the finish line right now. Interim coach Jim Grobe was brought out of retirement, and he will soon give way to former Temple coach Matt Rhule. They are going without Seth Russell, who injured his ankle against Oklahoma and has been lost since. Zach Smith took the reins and has completed 56% with six interceptions. This Baylor defense has collapsed, allowing 45.4 points a game over their last five.

In the college football betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, Boise State is favored:

Boise State Broncos -7 (-115)
Baylor Bears +7 (-105)

Over 68.5 points -110
Under 68.5 points -110

Don't make any mistake - Baylor has weapons. Terrence Williams, Shock Linwood and JaMychal Hasty all averaged over five yards per carry, and KD Cannon (989 yards in receptions, 11 TD's) is a receiving threat for certain. The secondary limited opposing quarterbacks to 53.7% completions, but the Bears can't stop many foes on the ground, as they allowed more than 200 rushing yards eight times, including a high of 431 against TCU.

And Boise State has one of the best running backs in the country; perhaps someone BetAnySports patrons aren't all that familiar with. Jeremy McNichols ran for 1663 yards and 23 TD's, and he provides more than just balance for QB Brett Rypien, who completed 62% with 23 TD's and has a pair of 1000-yard receivers in Thomas Sperbeck and Cedrick Wilson.

Boise State's problems in recent years have mostly surrounded their inability to beat Air Force, or else you may have seen them higher in the national rankings. And they also lost to run-heavy Wyoming. But Baylor plays a different style of game. And the Broncos, who rank 28th in the nation in passing efficiency defense, should be well-equipped to throw a few curve balls at Smith.

And in case you wondered whether they would "show up," the Broncos bludgeoned Northern Illinois by a 55-7 count in last year's Poinsettia Bowl. The Broncos are 10-2 straight-up, though just 3-8-1 against the football pointspread. Baylor is 6-6 SU and 3-9 versus the points.
