Baylor-SMU Spotlight Sunday Night NCAA Football

The Baylor Bears have won 10 straight against SMU in this series and are 20-6 against the spread at home in their last 26 games.

Think of it as your Sunday Night "warm-up" opportunity toward four months of serious NFL football wagering. How else to frame betting Baylor laying 34 points on a totally out-classed SMU team? Grab the remote and search for Fox Sports One to tune in.

And just when did Baylor become such an offensive juggernaut? Since RGIII came on the scene it seems the Bears have become a way station for offensive stars in Texas. They start the season as the nation's 10th ranked team and showcase one of the country's best QB's in Bryce Petty. The Bears won the Big 12 last year and if they continue their success it's possible that inventive offensive-minded coach Art Briles may get an NFL job offer similar to Chip Kelly in Philadelphia. Petty will have Heisman aspirations this year throwing to senior WR targets Antwan Goodley & Levi Norwood. Together they combined for over 2,000 yards last season according to prime stats collected at Diamond Sportsbook.

SMU is no slouch on offense under Coach June Jones and can score points but lacks similar experience with sophomore QB Neal Burcham. They also have lost players on defense to graduation, which won't help their cause. Overall, they'll be up against it on the road in a sell-out stadium. Current NCAA Football Odds still show Baylor as a 34 point favorite with the current total set at 75, up fomr an opening number of 74 and still moving..

Tonight's College Football Betting Preview

The Baylor Bears have won 10 straight against SMU in this series and are 20-6 against the spread at home in their last 26 games. Similarly, the Mustangs are 7-18-1 against Big 12 opponents. But when you must lay that many points, you're often waiting for the last two minutes for a potential meaningless back-door cover. That is, unless the favorite Bears decide to roll up the score to impress pollsters.

Over the Total is 21-5-1 in the last 27 Baylor home games and with a 75 Over/Under at this time at Diamond Sportsbook there's no way you can expect any kind of 27-10 type game here. As they say, "the line tells you something" and if you must bet the total, it's certainly Over or pass.
