Baseball nostalgia fans couldn’t have asked for better WS venues than Dodger Stadium and Fenway Park

MLB Odds: Red Sox Take on Dodgers in Game 1 of World Series

Suddenly, Major League Baseball is exciting and intriguing again.  Here’s why:

It's been more than a hundred years since these two famous franchises first faced off in the Fall Classic. The Boston Red Sox don't have Babe Ruth now as they did then and the Los Angeles Dodgers aren't known as the Brooklyn Robins anymore. But tonight Boston sends ace Chris Sale to the mound at ancient Fenway Park against L.A.'s Clayton Kershaw.  A juicy matchup of two of the best left-handed pitchers of this era.

Game 1 of the World Series is finally here, and we couldn’t have asked for a more competitive pairing.  The future line for the series at top sportsbook Bovada gives evidence to that, where the Red Sox are a non-overwhelming -165/+135 favorite over the Dodgers.  AND one potential win tonight for the visiting men in blue could virtually make the series a pick-em.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox are two of the most storied clubs in Major League Baseball, adding to that history this year; Boston led all teams in the MLB with an impressive 108 wins, while the Dodgers overcame significant questions and some injuries down the stretch. Living up to their giant paychecks, two of the three highest payroll teams in baseball will go toe-to-toe in a best-of-seven for the ultimate prize.  Higher television ratings due to the large markets are also expected.

On Tuesday evening Chris Sale will check off another first in his major league baseball career: starting a World Series game. After being briefly hospitalized and battling a stomach illness for much of the ALCS, the big lefty is healthy and well rested.  As a result, Red Sox Manager, Alex Cora, has called upon Sale to report to the mound for Game One with the potential to have as many as three starts should the series go the full seven games.

Predictably, the Dodgers starter will be ace Clayton Kershaw, pitching with a full five days of rest. MLB’s highest paid player will be a very attractive potential investment for bettors in an unusual underdog role.  Currently, Bovada has Sale and the RedSox listed as -156/+136 favorites.  With that type of firepower on the mound, be prepared for a game that could be decided by a single pivotal play.  Or perhaps one run.

Speaking of runs, maybe your preference might be focusing upon the Totals and the Over/Under for the game.  At this juncture, Bovada has this line listed:

Over 7.5 (+105)

Under 7.5 (-125)

Keep an eye on that.  That indicates a strong current preference for the “Under”.  No surprise with two of the best pitchers in baseball on the mound.  It could be a reality or a potential great Over value with Sale’s World Series inexperience and/or Kershaw’s reputation for throwing a clunker in playoff games.

One key thing to remember:

Kershaw has never pitched before at Fenway Park -- nor has he ever faced the Red Sox. As for Sale, he last faced the Dodgers on June 15, 2012, taking a no-decision at Dodger Stadium. It was only his second appearance against L.A. -- his other was a relief outing in 2011.

Overall, no matter what the outcome, for the entire series the ballpark atmosphere will be a primary focus with all fans roaring.   The World Series drama will get underway at 8:09 PM ET.
