The Seattle Mariners are operating with a tattered pitching staff at the moment, and they'll send Nate Karns to the mound against Mike Leake and the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night.

The Seattle Mariners were very hopeful early in the season, and in fact they were the leaders in the American League West not very long ago. Now they find themselves on the outside looking in, and things might get a little worse before they get better. They had a thrilling victory on Friday night, and they will try to carry that into Saturday night's matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals, which will begin at 10:05 PM ET at Safeco Field. BetAnySports customers will have an opportunity to continue with their "action" even after the first pitch has been thrown, as they use Live Betting Ultra to challenge the baseball betting odds in real time.

On May 28, the Mariners (37-37) were in first place in the AL West, but they have since slipped, losing 19 of their last 27 games, which leaves them in third place in the division, ten games behind the Texas Rangers, who have the second best record in the majors. The Cardinals (38-34) find themselves also ten games behind a division leader, as the Chicago Cubs, who are in first place in the National League Central, possess the best mark in Major League Baseball. They got a little closer with a three-game sweep in the WIndy City earlier in the week.

This will be a duel of right-handers - Mike Leake (5-4, 4.00 ERA) will get the start for the Cardinals, while the Mariners will send Nate Karns (5-2, 4.38) to the mound.

In the baseball betting odds that have been established on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the homestanding Mariners are favored:

St. Louis Cardinals (Leake - R) +121
Seattle Mariners (Karns - R) -131

Over 8 Runs -120
Under 8 Runs +100

The Mariners are probably hoping that the Cardinals hand the ball over to Trevor Rosenthal again. The closer, who made the National League All-Star team last year when he racked up 48 sacks, gave up a three-run walk-off homer to Adam Lind on Friday to propel Seattle to the victory. Rosenthal had been lit up recently for four earned runs over what was officially a third of an inning in two appearances, with his ERA going up over a run in the last two weeks. Considering that it was 1.38 on May 18, he has certainly been sliding.

A new acquisition really bailed out the M's on Friday night. Wade LeBlanc was brought up to make a spot start in place of Taijuan Walker and threw six scoreless innings. It was the Seattle bullpen, allowing three Cardinal runs in the eighth, that failed, but that was washed away with Lind's blast.

BetAnySports patrons know that Seattle has been shuffling things around with its pitching staff because of injuries, and of course the most meaningful is that of Felix Hernandez, who has a strained calf and isn't expected back until after the All-Star break. The guy who is taking the hill is Nate Karns, whose recent outings have given an indication that the Mariners' pen is going to be called upon again. he has been limited to five innings or less in six of his last seven starts, but he is at least a warm body who has had experience as a starting pitcher, having done that 26 times for the Tampa Bay Rays last year, which was his first full big league season.

The Cardinals have been pretty productive offensively on the road, averaging six runs per game, and as a result they have compiled a 23-13 mark in visiting uniforms, and only one major league team has been better than that. Meanwhile, the Mariners try to inch back toward the .500 plateau as a home team, as they are 16-18 coming into this game.
