Doyle Brunson Quits DoylesRoom.com

It has recently been announced that the online poker site DoylesRoom has now bid goodbye to its patron namesake, Doyle Brunson.

Ironically, Doyle Brunson’s name and image will continue to promote the site despite the 77-year-old poker legend’s sudden departure. As Brunson explains:

“Although they believe they have the right to market the name DoylesRoom and use my name and likeness for a period of time, I have asked them not to. Good luck – Shuffle up and deal.”

A DoylesRoom representative then further elaborated on Brunson’s comment and stated:

“Doyle Brunson was a sponsored pro of DoylesRoom and he has left his endorsement contract. We have purchased his image and likeness and are allowed to continue to use those. Doyle will still continue to play in the Bounty tournament.”

Apparently, Brunson took the major decision to leave the site because of potential legal ramifications in the wake of Black Friday. Despite the US online poker ban, DoylesRoom has continued to accept U.S. customers.

Consequently, the 10-time WSOP bracelet winner decided to beat a tactical retreat from the troublesome US online poker market, although he did say that he would consider reentering the industry again when online poker becomes fully legal in the States.

With Brunson’s departure from the poker room, the fate of the Brunson 10 is now unclear. For instance, at Saturday’s $25k WPT Championship, Brunson 10 members  Chris Moorman, Amit Makhija, and David Sands were wearing no DoylesRoom logos, with Moorman actually representing PartyPoker in the tournament.

In the meantime online members have been humorously reacting to the news on the Two Plus Two forum, with posters suggesting the site should now change its name to simply Room.com or ‘theroomformerlyknownasdoyles.com .’
