The Baltimore Ravens, off a tough loss against Las Vegas, return home to defend their turf against the defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs may have looked to BetOnline patrons as if they were going down to ignominious defeat last week against the Cleveland Browns, but Patrick Mahomes pulled one out of his hat like we know he has the ability to do. So things were happy for the defending AFC champs.

The same can't be said for the Baltimore Ravens, who had a tougher time then perhaps they expected on the Strip against the Las Vegas Raiders, losing in overtime.

These teams battle it out in the NBC Sunday night NFL game, scheduled to get underway at 8:20 p.m. ET at M & T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

Anybody who has been following the Ravens knows that they have been experiencing some personnel problems. After losing three running backs in camp, they have had to improvise, and we must say they did not do a bad job of it last week. Ty'son Williams, who was one of the few healthy backs remaining, gained 65 yards on the ground, and of course Lamar Jackson is always going to be a running threat. He did take a lot of the burden into his own hands with 86 yards on a dozen attempts.

In case you're not aware, Justice Hill, JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards, who essentially constituted Baltimore's running back rotation, are all out for the season. Latavius Murray had 28 yards against his old teammates on Monday night, and we might expect him to play a bigger role as things progress.

But the Ravens were not able to hold down the Las Vegas passing attack, as Derek Carr threw for 435 yards. This is obviously going to be a big concern as they face off against Mahomes, who commandeered a second-half comeback in which the Chiefs outscored Cleveland 23 - 7. All told he had 337 yards through the air with three touchdowns.

One of the things you probably have to continue to be worried about with the Chiefs is that they are starting two rookies on the offensive line. You don't have to have a great memory to recall what happened in the Super Bowl, when Kansas City went into the game with an offensive line that was less than healthy, and Mahomes was running for his life. Baltimore is one of those teams that always seems to bring a pass rush, and they did register three sacks of Carr in the season opener. Of course, Mahomes is a lot better running for his life than practically any other quarterback.

Jackson is likely going to continue to run with the football. It is going to be up to Kansas City defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to come up with something to slow him down. But we will say that there have been teams who have had some success in forcing Jackson to go to the air. Not that he is all that uncomfortable in doing so, but you just know that he favors certain receivers. It was a good fortune that Marquise Brown was able to play and play well last week, after missing most of training camp with an injury. And Sammy Watkins, in his debut with the team, had 96 yards in receptions. His presence is important, because he is more of a short-range option for Jackson, as is Mark Andrews, the tight end who must improve upon his 20 yards in catches from last week.

It was extremely difficult for Baltimore to deal with Mahomes last season, as he had 385 yards and four touchdowns in a 34 - 20 Kansas City victory in which it looks like the Chiefs trifled with the Ravens. Now keep in mind that Baltimore's best corner, Marcus Peters, is out for the season, and that might make Mahomes' task a little bit easier. We're not sure we are at the time of the year when we are going to see the best out of John Harbaugh's team. So we are going to lay the points.
