The New York Rangers will have to get it done on the road if they want to win Game 7 aginst the Carolina Hurricanes and advance NHL Eastern Conference finals.

The New York Rangers had to pull something of a high-wire act in their previous playoff series when coming back from an 0-2 deficit agiainst the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now they will try to complete the task again, as they take on the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference playoffs, starting at 8 PM ET at PNC Arena in Raleigh. As BetOnline customers probably know, the winner will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in the East finals.

Game 6 at Madison Square Garden was something of a disaster for the 'Canes, and goalie Antti Raanta gave up three goals in the first 24 minutes of action, and was pulled in the 5-2 Rangers win.

Raanta has generally been solid in the playoffs, so coach Rod Brind'Amour isn't yanking him from the lineup, and has expressed that Freddie Andersen, the #1 goalie who has been sidelined with a left leg injury, is not available for this contest.

As for the other goaltender, well, there's plenty to say about him.

In the Stanley Cup playoff betting odds that have been posted on this game at BetOnline, the Hurricanes are the favorites at home:

Carolina Hurricanes -147
New York Rangers +133

Under 5.5 Goals -140
Over 5.5 Goals +127

And on the puck line.....

Rangers +1.5 Goals -197
Hurricanes -1.5 Goals +172

There is sufficient justification for the 'Canes to be favored here, because they have enjoyed an awful lot of home cooking in the playoffs. In fact, they have been kind of bi-polar; so far, Carolina is 0-6 on the road, making them the first NHL team to ever lose its first six postseason gmes. But they are also 7-0 at home, which makes us kind of uneasy bout the Rangers as a "win" proposition here.

These games at Raleigh have also been more defensive in nature, not that offense has in any way been wide-open at the Garden. But in the PNC Arena there have been nine goals in three games, and one of those went into an empty net.

The net has more or less been closed for the 'Canes with Igor Shesterkin guarding it. Shesterkin, who is not just a finalist for the Vezina Trophy (best goaltender) but also the Hart Trophy (Most Valuable Player), had a .935 save percentage in the regular season, and in this series it's been even more sensational (.949).

Carolina has undoubtedly underperformed on the offensive end, even though they have seen their share of chances. If they can't up their end-result production, they're not likely to stand up too well to Tampa Bay, if they do indeed advance.

Of course, Shesterkin is very much in the way, as is the Rangers' Norris-winning defenseman, Adam Fox, who is certainly going to be called upon for some offense in this critical Game 7. Fox is tied for third overall in playoff scoring, and when you consider that the top two guys are Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl of Edmonton, that's pretty good company.

In this series, five of the six games has landed under the total. And you can almost rest assured that in Game 7 of a series between two defensive-minded teams, it will be even tighter. It's not a sensational price, but it does move in accordance with a trend. The Rangers would have to break that seven-game Carolina home playoff win streak, so +133 is a challenging price for us.

One thing to consider might be the price for the game to go to overtime, which currently stands at +285.
