MLB Free Picks for Friday 4-28

The Winners Circle has been firing MLB baseball picks and beating the bookmaker for several weeks now. Today, Doug Upstone and I discuss current happenings in Major League Baseball, including the death of the 'homer hat' and break down two games with analysis and free picks. Both games feature road favorites, but that is where any comparison ends.

Atlanta Braves at New York Mets

This NL East battle is the first game of the weekend series. The Braves send Max Freid to the mound and he is slowly coming back into form after a tremendous rookie season and several injuries. The Braves are an impressive 10-2 on the road so far and sit atop the division. Part of the reason for that great record is the Braves' bullpen with a 1.73 ERA and an o.91 WHIP as a staff.

The Mets counter with David Peterson who is seemingly always up and down, sometimes throwing a gem while stinking up the joint in other games. This year the Mets are 1-4 in his starts and he is sports a huge 7.36 ERA. But what bothers me the most is he has given up 7 home runs in just 25 2/3 innings already already in 2023 and the Braves have hit 40 home runs already this season.

Cleveland Guardians at Boston Red Sox

The Guardians open this three game series in Boston. So far Cleveland has simply been held back by their anemic offense. While Boston sits in the basement of the loaded AL East. The big surprise is despite the loss of Xander Bogarts and J.D. Martinez, the BoSox are 4th in runs scored at 5.6 per game and 23rd in strikeouts. 

Shane Bieber starts for Cleveland and he has a respectable ERA and WHIP, but the team has only won one of his starts, due mostly to really low run production when he starts. With Boston's Nick Pivetta you never know what you are going to get.
