The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints meet on Monday night in a battle between offenses that have struggled.

Preview and pick for New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers on MNF

There is no doubt that this has been a somewhat disappointing season for both the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And the fact that the Bucs are in first place in the NFC South gives you an indication as to how disappointing the entire division is.

But BetOnline patrons have been wondering whether Tampa Bay, which won the Super Bowl just two seasons ago, can be any kind of a factor in the postseason. Tom Brady has certainly been dealing with some distractions. And there have been injuries that disrupted skill performers and others.

Saints Bucs MNF free pickWith a 5-6 record (3-7-1 against the spread), the Bucs are trying to hang on to their lead. And there doesn't seem to be anyone else who wants to take charge. That includes the Saints, who have had some struggles in the wake of the "retirement" of Sean Payton. Coming off a shutout loss to San Francisco, New Orleans (4-8, both straight-up and against the number) is in a position where one more loss might be the death knell for them, even in a division where the champion may be under the .500 mark.

New Orleans and Tampa Bay will engage with each other on Monday night at Raymond James Stadium (8:15 PM ET, ESPN).

Last week the Saints were able to put together only 260 yards in a 13-0 shutout loss to the 49ers. There is going to be inconsistency in this offense with journeyman Andy Dalton at the controls. Truth be told, the same can be said for Jameis Winston, who has sat out time with injuries, and who is not the starter at the moment; something that he says "hurts my soul." Winston, of course, was Tampa Bay's quarterback through 2019, when he passed for over 5000 yards but was also intercepted 30 times. His hard luck continued when playing against the Bucs. he tore an ACL against them in 2021, and this season he threw three INT's in a 20-10 loss.

Dalton actually hasn't been so bad. He has averaged 7.5 yards per attempt - one yard more than Brady - with 66% complations and a ratio of 14 TD passes to seven interceptions. And the Saints are middle-of-the-pack (17th) in yards gained per drive. But they have been of very little impact lately.

They've also just been God-awful when it comes to turnovers. Their minus-14 margin is easily the worst in the league. And that tells a lot of the story.

In the Monday Night Football betting odds that have been posted on this game by the people at BetOnline.ag, the Bucs are laying points at home:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -3.5 (-105)
New Orleans Saints     +3.5 (-115)

Buccaneers Tom Brady predictionSome of Brady's numbers have actually been surprising. With 470 attempts, he's thrown just two interceptions and been sacked only 17 times. But in eleven games, he's thrown only 14 touchdown passes. And that's not the guy we know.

It seems that in some recent games, his head has cleared a little. Perhaps he is getting closer to some closure in his marriage to Gisele Bundchen. Could he already be looking elsewhere? Our friends at BetOnline put up a prop on who his next girlfriend might be.

Some of the entries are curious. Taylor Swift is the favorite at +1400, for whatever reason. I guess SOMEBODY had to be the favorite, Kim Kardashian is +2500. Do you really think Brady wants to help her take care of Ye's kids? And Jets QB Zach Wilson's mom is 100-1. Somebody at the prop desk has a dirty mind. Or maybe they know something we don't?

Brady still has guys like Mike Evans (13.8 yards per catch) to throw to. But Tampa Bay's problem on offense is that they have no balance. They have run the ball; only 33.6% of the time, which is next to last in the league. And when they have run it, it's been for an NFL-worst 3.3 yards per attempt.

His efforts against the Saints have not been monumental. Since joining the Bucs, he's completed just under 60% of his throws for 6.3 yards an attempt and seven touchdowns, with eight interceptions, against the Saints.

Ordinarily, you would think that a total of 41 points with a guy like Brady in the game would be a very low figure. But the fact is, the Buccaneers have gone under that number in nine of their 11 games. Not coincidentally, they have played nine of their eleven games under the posted total.

New Orleans (four of last five under 40) seem to be cooperative along those lines. So for us, the UNDER it is.
