Scottie Scheffler prohibitive favorite to win his second Green Jacket with lowest odds Since Tiger Woods in 2013
The first major of the PGA Tour season has arrived. It's Masters week, and the 88th edition of 'A Tradition Unlike Any Other' is set to begin on April 11 at Augusta National in Georgia. Masters odds have been available at online sportsbooks for many months, and odds have adjusted since posted at top online sportsbooks last year. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler's odds have been cut in half from +850 to +450 since winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship last month to solifify his standing as the best golfer in the world.
Scheffler, the 2022 Masters champion, has set himself apart from 2023 Masters champion and LIV Golfer Jon Rahm (+1300) and world No. 2 Rory McIlroy (+1100), who shoots for the career grandslam for the 10th time at Augusta in search of the prestigious green jacket and rare grand slam feat winning all four major championships.

Your main handicapping focus should be on current form and course form, which includes a players experience and results playing at Augusta National. Course history at Augusta National is more predictive of future success than any other course on the PGA Tour. Finding value early and shopping at leading online sportsbooks for the best odds and prices, including in matchups and on longshots for top finishing position odds is a focus as you narrow your selections and spread your risk.
Augusta National is mostly a second-shot golf course, and while longer hitters have an advantage and playing the par 5’s well under par is significant to success, it’s precision Ball Striking, quality irons and approach play and premium putting and Around the Green (scrambling) play that determines who moves up to bet on the leaderboard. Augusta National's dramatic elevation changes, slopes in fairways and on/around the greens require shot making and creativity while often playing from uneven lies. In most years at The Masters, the top finishers lead in Strokes Gained: Approach. The strokes gained data has only been available the last three years at The Masters, and all three winners ranked top-2 in SG: Tee to Green and top-7 in SG: Approach. So while there is a premium placed on putting, and Augusta greens are more difficult to putt than average PGA Tour courses, it’s more important to have a strong Tee-to-Green and iron game and approach play (ball striking), and especially inside 80 yards to place shots more accurately. A majority of the top finishers the last three Masters Tournaments have ranked top-12 in SG: Around the Green for the week. Greens in Regulation is a key stat as up to 14 of the last 17 winners have ranked top-7 for the week. You don’t have to be an elite putter to have a strong putting week at Augusta, as Masters champions Hideki Matsuyama and Sergio Garcia have shown.
12-13 picks as the golfers come around Amen Corner (holes 11-13).

I had my best betting and prognistication results in the 2018 Masters. That included nine tournament matchup winners, going 9-0. Take a look, along with 2021-2022 tournament matchup results (41-27) including 2-0 Masters picks in 2021. In the 2020 Masters in November, I picked the winner Dustin Johnson and also had him in a tournament matchup.
I'll be adding tournament matchups and any other prop bets separately on Wednesday as the leading online sportsbooks post them by Tuesday. We'll follow the weather and tee times as Friday-Sunday look ideal with sunny mid-70's temps and low 80's Sunday and lighter winds over the weekend. But Thursday's advance forecast calls for 100% rain showers and more severe thunderstorms in the morning with winds 15-25 mph.
The Masters at Augusta National is a picture of perfection. Manicured fairways, lush green landscape and colorful flowers with magical moments and memories surrounding the first major championship of the season.
