Rising superstar Erling Haaland has a knee injury and may not be fit for Saturday afternoon's game against Hertha Berlin.

As Borussia Dortmund moves forward with its Bundesliga schedule, their concern is no longer with catching up to Bayern Munich, because they know by now that isn't going to happen. The bigger concern - and that which BetAnySports customers must most strongly consider - is that they are trying to fight off clubs behind them.

As of now, the BVB has 60 points in the standings, with RB Leipzig right behind at 58, and Monchenglad and Leverkusen tied at 56. So anything can happen, and one of those teams is going to be left out when it comes time for next year's Champions League.

We're really not sure about the status of Erling Haaland, the 19-year-old sensation for Dortmund, who suffered a knee injury last week against Bayern. Can he play? If so, how much can he play? He's been working out, but not overdoing it. And there are reasons he may not want to risk coming back too soon, despite Dortmund's urgent situation, which at this point also includes the suspension of Mats Hummels, the World Cup star, and the lingering injury to Marco Reus.

In the German soccer betting odds placed on Saturday's game at BetAnySports (with a 12:30 PM ET start time), Dortmund is a big favorite:

Borussia Dortmund -1.5 (-109)

Haaland is a Norwegian by ancestry, but was actually born in England, where his father, Alf-Inge Håland, was playing for Leeds United. Thus, he has eligibility to play for the national sides in either country. He made the choice to go with Norway, and made his first big splash last year, when he competed in the Under-20 World Cup and scored a record nine goals in a game against Honduras. Later that year he played for Norway's senior team. And at Molde, in Eliteserien, the top-tier of Norwegian football, he once scored four goals within a period of just over 17 minutes. So "explosive" would be the word for him.

But the best was yet to come. Haaland was acquired by Red Bull Salzberg in the Austrian Bundesliga and became an immediate star, averaging more than a goal per game. And in the Champions League he scored in five consecutive matches, a feat that had been accomplished by only five other players.

After that, he was transferred to Borussia Dortmund for a fee believed to be in excess of €20 million. He started like a firecracker, with five goals in his first two games in the Bundesliga. After just 56 minutes on the pitch, he had already earned that league's Player of the Month award.

As of this moment, he has thirteen goals in the 14 games he has played at the top tier of German football.

Although he has a contract that runs through 2024, Haaland is always going to be rumored to be going elsewhere. And the most glamorous teams in the sport would like to make him their own. Manchester United was said to be contemplating an offer, as was Real Madrid. It doesn't get any bigger than that. But Dortmund beat them to the punch. He may indeed head to one of those aforementioned squads someday, and the price would be astronomical. He also has a lingering loyalty of sorts - to play in the city of his birth. A few years ago, he told a reporter, "The dream is to win the Premier League with Leeds."

The Real Madrid rumors persist, partially because being transferred there would unite him with good friend Martin Odegaard. We don't know the answers as to where he's headed, but we'd rather know about his status here. The Sun, a London-based tabloid, reported him as "out," but they don't often treasure accuracy. It may be too much to ask Jadon Sancho to pull off another hat trick, since this is a tougher side than Paderborn (a 6-1 victim last week). Bertha hasn't been beaten in its last five matches; they are tough to score on, and recently held Leipzig to a 2-2 draw. We think they can do the same, and you'll get a decent price.
