In the Orange Bowl, Georgia tries to bounce back from the stinging defeat at the hands of Alabama as they face the Michigan Wolverines, who pretty much manhandled Ohio State and Iowa on its way to the four-team college football playoff.

We are sure there were many BetOnline customers who were skeptical about the viability of the Michigan Wolverines as a legitimate national title contender. After all, coming into their annual rivalry game against Ohio State, they were the team without a huge offensive spark, while OSU had multiple All-Americans on that side of the ball.

But guess what? Michigan managed to shut the door on the Buckeyes, giving CJ Stroud an extremely uncomfortable day. While Stroud did complete 34 of 49 passes, he did fumble twice, and he was sacked four times. He also lost his grip on the Heisman Trophy, which wound up going to Alabama's Bryce Young.

So Michigan has hopes of turning the Georgia Bulldogs' offense, which is efficient if not dynamic, into something one-dimensional on Friday night as they engage in the other half of the four-team playoff to see who will meet in the national title game, which will take place on January 10 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Tonight, Michigan and Georgia meet up in the Orange Bowl, kicking off at 7:30 PM ET at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

After taking a battering in the SEC title game, doubts have to be raised about the Georgia defense. This stop unit was surrendering less than seven points a game coming into that. And 536 yards later, you might hang the word "pedestrian" on them if you didn't know the history.

That history actually may work out for them a little in this game. The Bulldogs, competing in the powerful SEC, are #1 in points allowed and #2 in yards per game allowed. And while Alabama's offensive attack can be referred to as explosive or dynamic, Michigan doesn't necessarily meet that description.

Instead, the Wolverines will try to get it done the way former Michigan quarterback Jim Harbaugh has gotten it done at the other stops he's had as head coach - on the ground primarily.

In the college football playoff betting odds that have been posted on this game by our friends at BetOnline, Georgia is the solid favorite:

Georgia Bulldogs -7.5 (-115)
Michigan Wolverines +7.5 (-105)

Over 46 points -112
Under 46 points -108

Michigan can hit its opponents with a double dose at running back, with Hassan Haskins (1288 yards) and Blake Corum (939), and they are both outstanding in their own way. They have combined for 31 rushing TD's. So they'll try to control the ball that way, if they can.

Can they?

Georgia has surrendered 2.7 yards per rushing attempt. That's fourth best in the nation. Only Florida and Alabama (in the SEC title game, where the Tide won 41-24) did anyone average as much as four yards a carry.

But really, most of the talk is about what Kirby Smart should do at the quarterback position. It seems Stetson Bennett was pretty damn good when he was averaging more than ten yards an attempt. But now that the defense couldn't do the job against its most capable foe, change is needed, we guess. So the media call was to re-insert JT Daniels, who had lost his job after an injury.

Daniels had been hailed as a Heisman candidate, based on four starts for Georgia last year. Maybe he offers more upside. And he will see some action here, according to Kirby Smart.

Who knows - maybe it could work for them. It's the Michigan pass rush that could bother the Georgia quarterback, whoever that might be. Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo come hard from either side. They have 25 sacks between them. And they will both be seen in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Our guess - and we hope, an educated one - is that the Bulldogs will do a better job in making the opponent one-dimensional. So we would give them the nod. But we also feel that in a game where both quarterbacks, Bennett and Cade McNamara (15 TD's, 4 INT's) take pretty good care of the ball, and there is motivation to move on the ground, we may see a rather primitive battle, which points us toward an UNDER.
