The New York Yankees have lost five of their last six games. They host the Boston Red Sox in a Saturday night game on Fox.

An article in the New York Post suggests that the New York Yankees shouldn't be pushing the panic button right now. And they really shouldn't, because we doubt there is going to be a monumental collapse to prevent them from winning the American League East.

BetOnline patrons should know, however, that the Boston Red Sox have been playing with some desperation, and will continue to do so, since they are engaged with other teams in a race for one of three wild card spots.

On Saturday these teams will meet up at Yankee Stadium, in a game scheduled toget underway at 7:15 PM ET and televised on Fox.

Jameson Taillon takes the mound for the Yankees. He is 9-2 on the season, with a 4.04 ERA. For the Red Sox, it's Nick Pivetta (8-6, 4.08 ERA). It's a pair of right-handers going at it.

The Yankees are still in command in the AL East, leading by a dozen games, but they have lost five out of their last six. The Red Sox beat them 5-4 in eleven innings on Friday when Xander Bogaerts strode home on a wild pitch.

In the MLB betting odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at BetOnline, the Yankees are favored:

New York Yankees -156
Boston Red Sox +144

Over 9 Runs -105
Under 9 Runs -115

And in the run line.....

Yankees -1.5 Runs (+117)
Red Sox +1.5 Runs (-137)

Taillon has seen an increase in the percentage of hard-hit pitches as well as fly balls, and he hs seen his ERA balloon of late. Since the beginning of June, the opposition has batted .296 against him.

On the plus side, Taillon has been best in the American League in walks allowed per nine innings. His last start was Sunday, against these Red Sox, and he surendered three homers. That brought him up to seven dingers allowed in his last four starts.

Pivetta was in that same game, and he gve up six runs before the fourth innings was over.

We would not get overly dramatic and suggest there was a pitching "crisis" with the Yankees, but they are looking for a little help.

Luis Severino, a key member of the rotation, was diagnosed with a lat strain and was placed on the 15-day injured list. He's got a recent history of injuries, and it is expected that he will be in rehab for about 4-6 weeks.

The rumor is that the Yankees are going to make a strong bid for Cincinnati starter Luis Castillo, who riddled them on Thursday. allowing just two hits over seven innings.

Games have been trending high for the Yankees. Looking at the last nine games, their games have averaged 12.7 runs.

Could we possibly trust Taillon right now? Clearly he's off the mark with something. He came out of the chute big-time this season, with almost all solid starts through May. Since then it's been a different story enitrely. Pivetta has been haunted by Giancarlo Stanton, who's had seven hits in 18 at bats lifetime against him (with three HR's).

In the five-inning prop, we can get a price of -106 to go over five runs. This is our way to go.
