Twitter is everywhere, even the poker table

Twitter is all the rage these days.   The social media outlet that allows folks insight into the lives of others that volunteer information in 140-character tidbits is taking over sports, entertainment, politics — even poker.   While they often lack in verbal communication prowess, there are plenty of reasons to follow poker players on Twitter. You may stumble upon a hilarious picture, detailed hand action and chip counts, or even a heated exchange.   Some of my favorite follows:   Doyle Brunson @TexDolly: The degree of which the 79-year old Brunson has mastered Twitter comes as a bit of a shock, but there isn't a better follow in poker, as his more than 390,000 followers can attest. Brunson posts his sports bets and lets everybody know when he's ready to shuffle up and deal, but his political ramblings and jokes steal the show.   "A 61 yr old friend asked me where could he find young women that would be interested in him. I told him to try the bookstore under fiction."   "Gun control? I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take a whooping. #2ndamendment"   Daniel Negreanu @RealKidPoker: If you can tolerate the constant hockey talk from the Canadian, the rest is pure entertainment. He's big into watching reality television and currently is keeping everybody abreast of his P90X workout progress but is a deep poker insider who is never shy about sharing his opinion.   "Top 5 staredowns in poker: John Juanda, Phil Ivey, Michael McDonald, David Oppenheim, Tom Dwan."

Allen Kessler @AllenKessler: Kessler is one of the more interesting follows because it's like he is an alien being with a brain hardwired for poker and poker only. He is a mainstay on the tournament circuit and is well-known for being a constant critic of tournament directors anytime a structure isn't to his liking (his logic and assessments are usually spot on, though), and he's a tremendous dispenser of information.   If you send Kessler a direct Tweet about anything pokerrelated, there is a good chance you will get a response.   Phil Hellmuth @phil_hellmuth: The 13-time World Series of Poker champion lives an exciting life, and he lives it very publicly for his nearly 150,000 followers. Hellmuth is very active, with anywhere from 5-10 posts per day, but they are interesting even if they are typically heavy with self promotion.   "Drinking scotch, smoking cigars, eating red snapper, breath in, breath out, ahhhhhh, chillin in the Bahamas ..."

Vanessa Rousso @VanessaRousso: Tournament time is learning time anytime Rousso's feed gets hot during an event with very detailed hand action and chip count posts. Rousso runs deep in most events she enters, so followers can get a great feel for the progression of the tournament. As an added benefit, she's big into the Las Vegas nightlife and has the pictures to prove it.   PokerNews @PokerNews: The site gives so many detailed and comprehensive updates during big tournaments that you sometimes have to hide it from your timeline to see anything else. This can be a very good thing, though, when you have a piece of somebody in one of these tournaments or are playing in it yourself.
