Week 1 Pick in the Jazz Survivor Contest

The NFL season is finally here, and it's time to start strategizing for our Survivor Pool picks in the contest at Jazz Sports. I'm here to provide you with my top picks in the Jazz Sports Survivor Challenge for Week 1. In addition to documenting the picks, whether you're a seasoned bettor or just starting out, these picks will give you the best chance of surviving and thriving in your Survivor pool or to play against and beat OSGA at Jazz Sports.

San Francisco 49ers: Stay Alive to Week 2

The San Francisco 49ers come into the 2024 NFL seasaon as the favorites to win the Super Bowl at most every online sportsbook. The open on Monday Night Football against the New York Jets and the refurbished Aaron Rodgers.

The Niners appear ready to go with new contracts in place for All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams and whiny wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Chrisitan MCCaffrey is a little banged up, but will most likely play, though probably not at 100%. The line on this game has dropped to Niners -4.5, backed by the never-ending hype regarding the return of QB Rodgers. Let's face it, Roders will turn 41 this year and hasn't thrown a pass in a regular season game since 2022, when he threw 12 INTs as the Packers has a losing season and did not make the playoffs. Exit Rodgers, only to turn up in NY. A moneyline bet on the 49ers will cost you -212 at Jazz Sports.

Though we hate burning the Niners in the first week, the goal is just to make it to Week 2 and then start looking for some more inriguing selections.

Backup Pick

We always wait until the day of the game to make straight-up (or moneyline) selections, because teams can have late injuries, scandals or weather could take a turn for the worst. So it's always a good idea to have a backup plan. In case something happens to the Bengals (or Joe Burrow), we are going to look at the Tennessee Titans as our backup.

The Titans are a bit of a risky pick, but another strategy playing in Survivor pools is to save some of the better teams for later in the contest. And they are playing the Chicago Bears, who haave given the keys to  the franchise to  oveall #1 pick  Caleb Williams. However, the numbers tell a  different story. When a QB is taken first in the draft, in their first start, they are a miserable 4-22-1 ATS. Marc Lawrence's NFL Perfect System Club tells us to PLAY AGAINST any team in its first game of the season with the first pick of the NFL draft at quarterback in his debut game.
