NFL Week 9 Best Bets

A look at Week 9 in the NFL, with betting tips and the top picks for Sunday football action.

Three top picks for Week 9 NFL betting

With the 2020 NFL season somewhere around its midpoint, there are a number of interesting races going on. Those races could impact bettors over the remainder of the season.

The Chiefs look as though they will lock up the AFC West for the fifth straight season, but face Carolina (3-5) at home this Sunday. A 12.5-point spread makes this one an intriguing matchup for bettors.

Carolina (+12.5) at Kansas City

The average bettor tends to undervalue certain teams. Teams coming off a loss, teams playing on the road, and underdogs are always undervalued by the public.

Carolina Panthers Kansas City Chiefs betting tipsWhat about a road underdog that lost the previous week? Likely undervalued by the betting public, this sample has had surprising results in 2020.

In 2020, all road underdogs coming off a loss are 24-13 ATS. Last year, road dogs were 45-28-5 ATS making this a very interesting trend. Betting trends are one of the common handicapping tools used by the pros.

Making things even more interesting is the return of RB Christian McCaffrey. It appears he was ready to go for last week’s game with Atlanta, but head coach Matt Rhule wanted to be sure he would be at 100 percent.

In addition, bettors can look at Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater, an ATS machine. In his career as a starter, Bridgewater is 31-11 ATS. As a road underdog, he’s 16-2 ATS. You have to like the Panthers at +12.5.

Seattle (-2.5) at Buffalo

Buffalo and Josh Allen looked very good in four straight wins to open the season. The past four weeks...not so much.

Seahawks Bills free pickThe Bills were shellacked by Tennessee and then lost to Kansas City. Sure, both the Titans and Chiefs are likely division winners, but then Buffalo didn’t score a touchdown in an 18-10 win over the winless Jets and needed a late field goal to beat the 2-5 Patriots.

Now, 6-1 Seattle comes to town. It’s the classic West Coast team playing an early game on the East Coast situation. Seattle under Pete Carroll isn’t the typical West Coast team that flops in these sorts of games.

Under Carroll in 24 trips to the East Coast, Seattle is 14-7-3 ATS. Plus, it’s hard to bet against Seahawks QB Russell Wilson who is 75-55-7 ATS in all of his regular season games.

Miami at Arizona (-4)

For all those on the Tua Tagovailoa train, the Dolphins rookie quarterback was pretty anemic in his first start against the Rams last week. Tagovailoa was just 12-of-22 for 92 yards as the Miami defense was really responsible for the win over L.A.

Cardinals vs dolphinsNow, the Dolphins head to Arizona where they will face the NFL’s 10th-best pass defense. Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is averaging 62 rushing yards per game and Arizona scores 29 points per game.

Arizona has not done well recently as a home favorite going just 1-4 straight up and ATS in their last five such games. The Cardinals are, however, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games and they need a strong victory to keep pace with NFC West leader Seattle.
