March Madness returns tonight now that the first two rounds of games (three if you count the play-in games) completed, yet there is no clear path yet for a victor in the 2018 OSGA NCAA Bracket Challenge.

With #1 seed Virginia losing to UMBC on Friday night and the upset of #1 Xavier on Sunday, the bracket contest has been shaken up. Still, #1 seeds Villanova and again Kansas made it through to the Sweet 16.

For contest players, the losses by Virginia and Michigan State are a big help as nearly a third of the participants have had their champion dethroned in the first week. The chart below provides a breakdown of the picks for the tournament winner.

CHAMPIONS SUMMARY
Team Name # Times Picked
Villanova 50
Virginia 28
Michigan St 24
Duke 15
Kansas 14
N Carolina 11
Arizona 8
Cincinnati 5
Kentucky 4
Michigan 3
Purdue 3
Xavier 2
W Virginia 2
Gonzaga 1
Alabama 1

Michigan, West Virginia, Gonzaga and Purdue were each picked to win it all by just a few players and if any of those teams is crowned National Champion, it is likely that that player will win the grand prize. A look at the projected standing shows that ‘Montewinns’ has a chance at the most points with ‘tks777’ and ‘steves307’ at the top, should Villanova prevail. If Duke, Michigan or Kansas end up hoisting the Trophy in two Mondays, the picture is also clear.

In the first weekend no player had a perfect bracket after the first two day of games. But, since then, the leaderboard has changed significantly with a new leader each day. Currently ‘steves307’ leads the pack with 47 points followed by four players with 44. Typically the leader in the OSGA NCAA Tournament Challenge has 50 or more points after the first two rounds, a testament to just how wild the upsets have been this year.

Last year players in the 2018 OSGA NCAA Bracket Challenge picked games at an astonishing rate of 70% or better in the first weekend. This year just 6 players have reached that mark. In fact, nearly a third of all players have picked games at less than 60%!! With all of the upsets, we look forward an exciting finish to the contest.

Stay tuned and check the standings and the reports, we may be in for a wild ride again this weekend. Who knows, with several ‘longshots’ picked by players still standing in the Sweet 16, most players still have a shot at grabbing some prize cash!
