OSGA Announces Winners of 2018 College Bowl Bonanza

The OSGA College Bowl Bonanza always comes down to the National Championship game, but this year ‘tech girl’ ran away with the contest by hitting 77% of her selections.

Congratulations to ‘tech girl’, the winner of the 2018-2019 OSGA College Bowl Bonanza!

‘tech girl’ beat out over 140 players by picking twenty four out of 32 College Bowl games correctly, against the spread! She hit at a fantastic win percentage of 77%. As the NCAA Championship game approached, it would have been impossible to overtake the run she had in December. Thus, ‘tech girl’  picked up the Grand Prize of $500 cash, courtesy of OSGA. She is only the second woman to win an OSGA contest in all the years we have been running them! Way to go ‘tech girl’.

‘100towin’ also picked games at better than 70%! But
unfortuantely, the College Football playoff did him in. ‘100towin’ only picked 6 bowl games incorrectly, but missed both playoff games and the National Championship! Hitting two of those games would have created a tie situation for 1st place, like we saw last year. Still, with 22 wins, ‘100towin’ didn’t make out too badly with 2nd place and a cool $250.

The Bowl Contest ended up in tie for third place with two players ending the bowl season with a total of 21 wins. As in previous years, the tie-breaker of the total score in the National Championship game was the deciding factor.  ‘MDiBello’ managed to pick the exact total of 60 when Clemson crushed Alabama 44-16. He claimed the 3rd place prize of $125, courtesy of OSGA. ‘SGB198137‘ also had 21 wins, but had to settle for fourth place as his tiebreaker total went OVER in the face of Clemson’s defense. Fourth places was good for $75.

20 was the magic number this year, as in 20 wins. Seven players ended the College Bowl Bonanza with 20 wins! But, ‘Buffer’ and ‘Slick’ will split the 5th place prize, as both of these players hit the exact total of 60 as well.

“It’s hard to believe that after 32 games Against the Spread that two players had win percentages over 70%,” said OSGA President Jim Quinn. “But 24 wins is the highest total ever in the history of our College Bowl Contest.”

The OSGA College Bowl Bonanza has had many years where it all comes down to the final game. But, after missing just five games through the first 30, no one was going to catch ‘tech girl’. Again this year the contest was using the point spread, adjusted prior to the start of the contest to ½ points to avoid pushes. This year was tough as only 14 players hit games at a 60% or better clip. In prior years, nearly half the field was able to achieve those kinds of numbers.

This year the College Bowl Bonanza again featured two extra prizes, a Consolation Prize consisting of a $25 Free Play at contest sponsor
Skybook
and a Bad Beat Prize for players who went 0-3 during the College Football Playoff games. Last year only one player did not pick more than 10 games correctly, but this Bowl season was a bit tougher and 13 players earned a consolation prize. And, with Clemson winning the National Championship, nearly 1/5 of the field is eligible for the Bad Beat Prize, where Elite-rated Skybook will give players a $100 match play based on a $100 deposit.

Finally, this year we also added an extra incentive for OSGA Members, where the member with the highest point total would win $100, regardless of where the player finished in the standings. Long-time member ‘Snurker’ had 20 wins, but missed out on the prize pool with the tie-breaker. 20 wins was the tops for any member and thus ‘Snurker’ cashes the OSGA Member prize of $100, despite coming in 7th in the contest.

Thank you to everyone who participated in another great free contest from OSGA. Check back with OSGA for more free contests, including the Super Easy, Super Bowl Contest and Members-Only Super Bowl contest and our huge March Madness contest.
