Update
Things do appear to be moving forward, albeit slowly, for the refund of players accounts.
Late in 2006, the Antiguan Gaming Board succeeded in gaining a court order to supervise the distribution of the funds. While this may lead to some slight delay in repaying customers, players should take some consolation that it will be done under the supervision of the High Court in Antigua. Apparently, the High Court has been able to assist in the recovery of funds being held by cash and credit card processing companies.
BETonSPORTS has told us that they expect the bulk of these funds to be returned this month, as agreements have been made with many of the companies that BOS did business with prior to David Carruthers’ arrest. If these companies are true to their word, funds will become available within the next few weeks…
Still, players will have to wait until all Costa Rican employees are finally paid their remaining severance. We have heard that the ex-employees should be paid off by the end of January.

| 1) When will I be able to get my money?
/ Is my money safe? / Am I ever going to get my money? |
| We have been told by everyone within the entire
BETonSPORTS group that players money is safe. However, there is
no timetable on when this money will be available for withdrawal. The latest Temporary Restraining Order
was extended on October 16th. It now is set to expire on October 23rd. All BETonSPORTS holdings are
still frozen and players money is still on account. Though the DOJ has noted that funds should be returned to US
customers, we doubt that this will happen prior to the Restraining Order
expiring or being lifted.
UPDATE 10/17
We
again received confirmation that ALL players’ funds are secure AND
will be returned. The latest extension of the Temporary Restraining Order
against BETonSPORTS expires on October 23. Right now accounts are frozen but players
will most likely
be paid out via check. Accounts still need to be
‘unfrozen’ and money moved to all of the appropriate accounts before
a dime can be sent to players. Still, no timetable has been set to
begin processing payouts. more

| 2) When can I resume wagering? |
All reports within BETonSPORTS tell us that they are
focusing all of their efforts on re-opening the sportsbook. However, we
are a bit skeptical that they will again be able to take wagers from US
citizens. Some speculation revolves around them not accepting phone
wagers, but being allowed to take Internet bets.
UPDATE 8/11
BETonSPORTS will no
longer have an operation that faces the US or service US customers. Thus,
no bets will be taken from the US ever again by BETonSPORTS. more

4) Is the Department of Justice going after all the books?

| This appears to be an isolated incident where the
Department of Justice has targeted a US citizen operating an offshore
sportsbook. This indictment covers a number of alleged serious crimes and not just internet gambling. Examples are: racketeering, conspiracy, fraud and tax evasion. It appears that
BETonSPORTS, or at least its founder, Gary Kaplan, has been in the sights of the US authorities for some time.

| 6) Is this going to kill the whole industry?

| This is certainly a blow to the offshore betting industry.
However, this is only one company and there are still dozens of VERY
legitimate sportsbooks operating offshore, able to take any variety of
wagers both on the phone and via the Internet. |
