The Los Angeles Wildcats will try to rebound from a disappointing loss as they take on the Tampa Bay Vipers in XFL action slated for Dignity Health Sports Park outside L.A.on Sunday night.

It may be kind of hard to gauge the Tampa Bay Vipers right now. They are a team that went without a touchdown for the first two weeks of XFL play, yet they have averaged just a shade under 400 yards a contest. The problem was taking the final step on the journey and into the end zone - something they have seemingly been able to do of late.

On Sunday night the Vipers find themselves having to cross the country for a game with the Los Angeles Wildcats, which will kick off at 9 PM ET at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA.

ESPN is televising it, and BetAnySports customers can get in on real-time wagering action that they can activate through the facilities provided by Sports Betting Ultra.

The Vipers used Aaron Murray as their starter for the season's first game, as they took it on the chin to the tune of 23-3 at the hands of the New York Guardians, as the former University of Georgia star had that "deer in the headlights" kind of look. Then they were held to just nine points by the Seattle Dragons, as Taylor Cornelius emulated Murray's look.

But they have played better in the last two - scoring a few TD's against the Houston Roughnecks and then scoring a 25-0 shutout over the DC Defenders. Is Cornelius feeling more comfortable behind center? We'd say so; he was 24 of 31 last week. Quinton Flowers was unhappy about not getting the chance to compete at quarterback, and left the team. He has come back to practice, will see action primarily as a running back, but still wants to be traded.

The Wildcats looked to have momentum working for them going into last week's game at MetLife Stadium, as they have come off a 39-9 thrashing of DC. But then, despite 325 passing yards from Josh Johnson, lost a 17-14 decision to the Guardians.

Here are the XFL betting odds, as they are posted by the folks at BetAnySports. And don't forget that you can do better than the standard -110 if you go on the website and looking for "Reduced" on the sportsbook interface:

Los Angeles Wildcats -3 (-105)
Tampa Bay Vipers +3 (-115)

Over 42.5 points -110
Under 42.5 points -110

What you see with a couple of the games we described in our intro is that it's been tough for teams to make these cross-country trips. in fact, in four instances of that happening, we've seen the home team cover every time. So that doesn't necessarily bode well for the Tampa Bay side here.

That may be a bit of a problem, but so is the matchup situation here - for Los Angeles. If you have watched the Wildcats, you'll notice that they often get pushed around on the defensive line. That's a tough spot to be in when you have an almost completely balanced offense that will exploit you if you let them. Last week both De'Veon Smith and Jacques Patrick had over 100 yards on the ground against the Defenders, who, as it turns out, were pretty poor defenders.

Speaking of that, the Wildcats are going to be extremely difficult to defend when they have Nelson Spruce healthy and back in the lineup again. He is one of the top receivers the XFL has, able to be a possession guy or go long. Tre McBride has come into the lineup and been star-level material, with 236 yards the last two weeks. And Saeed Blacknall, who was one of the top big-play threats in the Big Ten at Penn State, has gotten "on the board" with a 42-yard connection with Josh Johnson last week.

Johnson, who has been with thirteen NFL teams but has only one win as a starter, was expected to be one of the best XFL quarterbacks, and that is what he's been. Los Angeles will figure a way to put points up. So will the Vipers. And if there is a unit that gets a little let-lagged, perhaps it's more of an effect on the defense. We're going OVER the total in this matchup.
