The Tampa Bay Vipers wil try to avoid their many mistakes as they visit the Seattle Dragions in XFL action that begins at 5 PM ET.

It was a virtual comedy of errors for the Tampa Bay Vipers last week as they gave away a game against the New York Guardians. And now they have lost their quarterback. Does that justify them being a favorite on the road? We'll find out, as they take on the Seattle Dragons on Saturday at CenturyLink Field.

Game time is 5 PM ET on Fox, and BetAnySports customers can get reduced juice on this contest as they avoid having to lay the customary -110 o football.

The Vipers actually out-gained New York by a 394-226 margin last week. And they converted seven of their 15 third down opportunities. But they got shaky play out of quarterback Aaron Murray, especially in the first half, as he was intercepted twice, as they lost 23-3. Murray finished up just 16 of 34 on the day, and he also suffered a foot injury, which he was trying to play through.

This week he did not practice, and was ultimately declared "out" by coach Marc Trestman. So now they will likely split snaps between two quarterbacks. And they both represent different styles.

Taylor Cornelius is more of a drop-back type; he only started one season at Oklahoma State and threw for 32 touchdowns in the wide-open offense employed by Mike Gundy. And then there is also Quinton Flowers, a product of South Florida who has been earmarked for various duties, including coming out of the backfield and splitting out wide, in addition to QB. Flowers had 34 rushing yards and 50 through the air at MetLife Stadium against New York. It would not be unusual to see both Flowers and Cornelius on the field at the same time.

Seattle is a team also coming off a loss. But they are returning to what might be an enthusiastic home crowd.

Here are the XFL betting odds for this particular game, posted by our friends at BetAnySports:

Tampa Bay Vipers -2
Seattle Dragons +2

Over 44 points -110
Under 44 points -110

Seattle lost 31-19 to the DC Defenders last week. And in the process, their defense recorded the worst coverage grad of any in the initial week of XFL play, according to the folks at Pro Football Focus. They allowed DC's Cardale Jones to connect on a couple of big touchdown plays and record nine yards an attempt. Yet the Defenders only had 295 yards of offense and 13 first downs. So it wasn't all horrible.

The same goes for quarterback Brandon Silvers. He had three touchdown passes, but completed just 21 of 40 (a 5.4-yard average) and was intercepted twice. He has also been dealing with an ankle injury, though it was indicated that he would play. If he is slowed, he's backed by BJ Daniels, who like Flowers played at the University of South Florida.

One thing that put the Vipers a little behind the eight-ball early on is that they were going to be without the guy they projected as their best receiver. Antonio Callaway, who washed out with the Cleveland Browns, was getting another chance. But he suffered a leg injury in camp and is on injured reserve. So the "godsend" here has been Dan Williams, who had six catches for 123 yards last week. De'Veon Smith was also a workhorse in the backfield, with 79 yards.

What the Vipers need to do is improve upon their success rate in the red zone. They were 0-for-4 in that area last week.

The key player move for Seattle this week was the acquisition of yet another USF grad,  SJ Green, who will immediately become the XFL's most experienced receiver. Green spent twelve seasons in the CFL, where he won three Grey Cups, wound up on eight All-Star teams, and had career highs of 104 catches and 1,462 yards not even three years ago. This is a big "get" for the Dragons, inasmuch as Green is a shoo-in to get to the CFL Hall of Fame. And he should adapt quickly.

With Kenneth Farrow and Ja'Quan Gardner, there's no reason the Dragons shouldn't be able to run the ball. And the crowd might be an other factor. Based on some reports on advance ticket sales, it's possible the Dragons could have the league's largest crows yet on hand. CenturyLink Field's acoustics make for a noisy place; not ideal for opposing QB's, especially one making his first start as a pro (perhaps Cornelius?).

Al in all, these are not bad conditions under which to take points with the home dog.
