Picks, props and profiles for The Genesis Invitational at Riviera
The second Signature Event of 2026 is The Genesis Invitational at iconic Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palasades just west of Los Angeles. Tiger Woods is the tournament host for 72 players shooting for a first place prize of $4 million from a $20 million prize pool. That includes 18 of the top 20 and 41 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings (OSGA) with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and No. 2 Rory McIlroy shooting for their first win at Riviera.

The Course
Take a hole-by-hole look at Riviera Country Club along with insight into the iconic par 71 course that plays to nearly 7,400 yards.
Riviera is about strategy, precision and placement over strength and power with players shaping shots and controlling trajectory into firm greens that repel marginal shots and placement. There are some severe contours and handling the subtle undulations on greens has proven more difficult to make putts from inside 6-feet. Riviera ranks as the fourth toughest course on Tour in Strokes Gained Putting.
Sloping fairways, uneven lies, unpredictable Kikuyu rough and oversized Poa annua greens add to the strategic test. I provide more course insight at BetOnline, and I'll update as posted and available.
Riviera has the second-lowest Driving Accuracy/Greens in Regulation percentage combination on Tour, and many of its 58 bunkers are deep, penal hazards. Course experience is a real premium on this classical set-up, as the course simply cannot be overpowered. That's reason enough for one of our matchup picks below with more struggles this week for Riviera first-time starter Chris Gotterup.
Featured Groups
But know rain is in the forecast for players with earlier tee times Thursday, and that includes the groupings of Bradley, Griffin and Burns along with some of our targets in the Hovland, Young and Lowry group. Also playing in the rain with a 9:08 am PT tee time is featured group McIlroy, Fleetwood and Morikawa. Better than an 80% chance of rain is forecast starting at 8:00 am PT and continue until near 1pm. Catching some of the likely rain is Scheffler, Schauffele and Si Woo Kim along with Cantlay, Straka and Hall plus Rose, MacIntyre and Gotterup.

Tournament Matchups And Props
BetOnline offers an extensive range of 72-hole head-to-head player tournament matchups each week, along with select round-by-round matchups. Here are some of the notable tournament matchups and players to watch at the 2026 Genesis Invitational.
BetOnline and BookMaker also allows bettors to wager on matchups, laying or taking 1.5 strokes. That’s what we did on Si Woo Kim at The American Express in his T6 finish after leading into the final round. Farmers Insurance Open matchup winners included Maverick McNealy, who also finished top 10.
After a 3-0 start on matchups the first three tournaments on the year, we hit just one of our three underdogs in tournament matchup last week in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. A 3-0 sweep was there for the taking. Day over Gotterup was a winner, and Day missed top 20 by 1-stroke. We play against Gotterup again this week as he makes his debut at Riviera and struggles are more likely on this course and setup with more strategy. Hovland blew a 4-shot lead on Sunday and lost to Si Woo Kim, who fired his best round the tournament, 65. McIlroy (+265) made three double bogeys and a triple bogey over two rounds, missed numerous putts 3-6 feet and had the second-lowest round Sunday with 64. He lost to Scheffler by 3-shots after Scottie shot 63 Sunday including a record 3 eagles on the par 5's. WTF, no victory on top value plays.

Tournament Matchups
- Young (-115) over Gotterup
- McIlroy (+220) over Scheffler
You can see some of the differences in odds from top online sportsbooks like BetOnline and BookMaker with BOL offering Cameron Young -115 over Chris Gotterup (-105), and Bookmaker -129 on Young to -101 Gotterup. Consider also Young -1.5 strokes at +115. Cantlay (-110) is listed against Morikawa (-110), but -117 BookMaker. We're looking for other matchups, and consider round-by-round over weekend.
Rory McIlroy finished T14 last week at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in his 2026 PGA Tour while shooting 64 on Sunday. It was a disappointing event considering the 36-year-old 5-time Major winner carded three double-bogeys and a triple-bogey while also missing numerous putts 3-6 feet. In McIlroy’s last seven visits to Riviera, he’s finished top 5 twice, top 10 and last year T17. Length is an advantage and especially if it’s wet with McIlroy and other big hitters able to hit shorter irons into the greens and control spin and trajectory.
Tommy Fleetwood finished T4 last week in his 2026 debut at Pebble Beach. He’s top 5 across Strokes Gained stats at Riviera since 2021 and finished T20 and T10 in 2023-24.
Patrick Cantlay is also top 5 in Strokes Gained at Riviera since 2021. The 33-year-old Long Beach native has three top 20 and three more top 5 finishes in this event including 3rd in 2023 and T4 in 2024 when he led halfway through after shooting 64-65. He finished T14 last week at Pebble Beach with a final round 65.
Cameron Young nearly pulled off the very rare win on debut at Riviera when he finished T2 in 2022 after leading through 36 holes shooting 66-62. The 28-year-old followed up with two more solid top 20 performances the next two years, and his driving strength should carry him to solid results again this year. As a correlated course to Augusta National at The Masters, Riviera is a great course fit for Young’s strengths, as his Ball Striking and Off the Tee stats have been better along with Approach play.
Viktor Hovland had a strong debut in this event finishing T5 in 2021. He finished T4 in 2022 and was in position to win after shooting 64-65 on Friday, Saturday. The 28-year-old former U.S. Amateur winner at Pebble Beach is improving his short game to go along with his top-ranked long iron Proximity stats from 200+ yards, and he can contend again having also finished top 20 in this event in 2023 and 2024.
