NBA Betting Odds -- How Punchless Are the Wizards... Really?

The Washington Wizards will try to avoid going winless in the seeding games when they take on the Boston Celtics to kick off the NBA's Thursday slate.

There were a number of teams who came into the NBA bubble with their work cut out for them.

Some of them have truly made the most of their opportunity. The Phoenix Suns, who have won their first seven seeding games, are a pretty good example of that.

Others have let things completely fall apart. As BetAnySports customers may have noticed, the Washington Wizards fall into this category, having lost every game thus far.

And they haven't looked good in doing so. They have, in fact, yet to get within eight points of any opponent, so if they are to come away without a goose egg from this experience, they may have to depend on some charity from the Boston Celtics, who they'll face at Noon ET at the AdventHealth Arena on the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex near Orlando.

Coach Scott Brooks encountered his share of criticism in Oklahoma City for failing to achieve more than one Finals appearance even with stars like Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden in the fold. Management should have shouldered some of that responsibility. And who can blame him for the Wizards' failure in the NBA bubble? After all, they went into it without the likes of John Wall, Davis Bertans and 30 ppg scorer Bradley Beal.

Of course, a team like the Brooklyn Nets was able to make the best of it and then some behind interim coach Jacque Vaughn, and that doesn't make Brooks look particularly good. Whether he's able to stick around until next season or not is just speculation, but if he does he'll have a roster that looks different.

With a record of 24-47 straight-up (33-36-2 against the pointspread), the Wizards have actually fallen further in the East, to where they are eleventh, behind Charlotte and Chicago, neither of whom were invited to the bubble. But BetAnySports patrons should be cautioned that the Celtics are locked into the third spot in the conference, and will play Philadelphia in the first playoff round, so there is nothing to be gained from this game except to stay healthy.

Even so, Washington may face a struggle, considering that five of their losses in the seeding games have been by double digits.

And they have been without much life offensively, shooting 43% from the field and just below 33% from beyond the arc.

What it's come down to for Brooks is figuring out which players he might be able to count on to supply the supporting cast next season. Rui Hachimura, the rookie from Gonzaga, is someone for the future, although he hasn't necessarily seized the opportunity in the bubble. Thomas Bryant, a center, might prove very useful, because he has some ability to spread out a defense and play away from the basket when necessary.

Mo Wagner, the big man out of Michigan, frustrates opponents, but he is still kind of like a bull in a china shop. Maybe there is a role for him taking star players from the other team out of games. In the 126-113 loss to Milwaukee on Tuesday night, he was able to induce Giannis Antetokounmpo to give him a head butt, which not only took Giannis out but also benched him for the finale.

Basically, here's a team that can't wait to get out of the bubble and home, and they are the first ones who can do it en masse. Maybe they'll play like it.

We wonder how much consideration we should give to Boston's spread record, which, at 41-26-4 ATS, is better than every NBA team except for OKC. Maybe that's a small factor that turns is to the guys in green, but it's more a matter of the Wizards' ineptitude.
