Insights and advice for betting MLB in August
The top teams in the American League will push towards the playoffs over the last 1/3 of the regular season with about 55 games remaining. The Tigers and Astros remain on top of their divisions from last month, but the Blue Jays posted the best record in baseball in July and have overtaken the slumping New York Yankees.
The American League is not as deep as the National League, and the top teams and division leaders Tigers and Yankees have shown some vulnerability in July.
More key games and schedules provided for American League teams in August, which follows potential deals and the MLB trade deadline July 31. Key MLB American League Series And 2025 Baseball Odds In August
Here are the MLB National League division records, top teams and matchups in August. Adjusted futures odds are added to compare from BetOnline, which notes that only the Blue Jays and Tigers are currently losses for the sportsbook in futures pennant market and the biggest liabilities among AL teams are the Red Sox, Rangers and Blue Jays.
Along with key series in August, select online sportsbooks post props and odds including most wins in August. The Dodgers (+500), Cubs (+800) and Mets (+900) top all MLB teams with lowest odds to have most wins in August with the Tigers the top team in the American League. But as this market is bet into, odds adjust quickly and notable moves include more money on the Texas Rangers (+2000 to +1300), with added stats on the Rangers and other top teams below.

American League
AL Central
Detroit (64-46)
Cleveland (54-54)
Kansas City (54-55)
Minnesota (51-57)
Chicago (40-69)
July records: DET (11-14), CLE (14-12), KC (15-9), MIN (11-13), CHI (12-13)
The Tigers cooled off in July and are now tied with the Blue Jays for the best record in the American League heading into August.
The Tigers still have the largest division lead in baseball at 9.0 games ahead of the Guardians, and Detroit (+81) has the second-best run differential in the AL behind the Yankees. Tigers ace Tarik Skubal (-450) is the Cy Young favorite on a pitching staff with a 3.76 ERA (4th in AL), but Detroit just lost their No. 2 starting pitcher Reece Olson for the rest of the season with a shoulder strain. Detroit (+350) is the current favorite to win the AL Pennant. The Guardians and Royals are +5000 and 2.5-3 games behind the Mariners for the final Wild Card. The Twins continue to disappoint and just traded top late-inning flamethrowing closer Jhoan Duran to the Phillies.
AL East
Toronto (64-46)
New York (59-49)
Boston (59-51)
Tampa Bay (54-55)
Baltimore (50-59)
July records: TOR (18-8), NYY (11-13), BOS (17-7), TB (7-17), BAL (13-11)
The Rays have fallen off badly in July and close the month 2-10 ahead of their finale at New York looking to avoid a sweep to the Yankees. Tampa Bay leads MLB in stolen bases (141). The Blue Jays have taken over the division lead with an 18-8 month and the Red Sox (17-7) are just as hot in solid position for a Wild Card and in the division race. Toronto leads MLB in hitting with a .265 average. Yankees fans are voicing their frustration, but New York still leads MLB in Home Runs (172), Slugging (451), OPS (.783) and No. 1 in the AL in run differential (+96). The Bronx Bombers are +400 to win the AL Pennant along with the Blue Jays. Yankees slugger Aaron Judge still leads MLB with a .342 batting average and .711 slugging percentage, but is no longer the AL MVP favorite despite 37 HR and 85 RBIs with Seattle's Cal Raleigh slightly ahead.
AL West
Houston (62-47)
Seattle (57-52)
Texas (56-52)
Los Angeles (53-55)
Athletics (48-63)
July records: HOU (12-13), SEA (13-12), TEX (16-8), LAA (12-13), A's (13-11)
The Astros pitching staff leads the MLB in strikeouts (1,057) and No. 3 in the AL with a 3.69 Earned Run Average (ERA). The Rangers (3.22) staff leads MLB in ERA, Batting Average Against (BAA) at 2.26, WHIP (1.16) and Texas had the best run-differential in July and currently +72 overall (No. 3). The Rangers have allowed a league-low 374 runs.
Next closest is the Royals (398). Clearly the Rangers are a better team than their record, and pro bettors pounced on them to win the most games in August driving their +3000 odds to +1300. If you missed it, you have other options to bet the Rangers like their adjusted season win total (O/U 84.5), as Texas looks like a good bet to move up having also averaged 5.8 runs per game in July. A tough early August schedule with games at home against the Yankees and Phillies after opening the month at Seattle, but the Mariners have struggled to drive in runs with men in scoring position. But not Mariners MVP favorite, catcher Cal Raleigh, who leads MLB with 41 HR's and 87 RBIs. Current AL Pennant odds Astros (+450), Mariners (+750) and Rangers (+900) and the Athletics get mention with their Rookie of the Year favorite, big left-handed 1B slugger Nick Kurtz.
