Hot Betting Events for the Weekend of August 20-22

Week 2 of the NFL pre-season and MLB betting are on tap for this weekend.

This weekend the top betting events start with a full card of NFL preseason games, with two Friday games, 9 Saturday matchups and a Sunday 1 PM game. There's also a full slate of Major League Baseball action and the last chance to make the cut for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the Wyndham Championship.

Preseason NFL Week 2

The NFL preseason is usually at its "best" in Week 2. But, after last night's 35-0 drubbing on the Philadelphia Eagles by the New  England Patriots, and the fact there are only three games this preseason, who knows what may happen in the next three days.

NFLX Week 1betting tipsMany NFL teams participated in joint practices this week and one game to watch should be Tennessee at Tampa Bay, especially after some fireworks, and by fireworks we mean fights, at practice this week.

Titans at Buccaneers - Tampa Bay head coach Bruce Arians told ESPN that Tom Brady will not play against the Titans. He added that it wasn’t likely that any starter would play! Tennessee didn't play any of their superstars in week one, including Ryan Tannenhill, Derrick Henry, AJ Brown or new addition, Julio Jones so we may not see them this weekend either. Tampa Bay returned all of their starters from last year's Super Bowl squad and most of their roster is set, while there is big time competition for spots on the Titans roster. Though they a re the defending Super Bowl champs, it is a bit of a surprise to see the Bucs as slight one point favorites at the top online sportsbooks Saturday night, knowing that many of the players on the field are really auditioning for other teams.

Raiders at Rams - This is the nationally-televised preseason game on Saturday night, but that wont mean anyone is playing for ratings. This week saw more joint practicing and more fighting, casuing the Raiders to leave leave the practice field early. Unfortunately, that my be the best that we see out of these two teams. Both coaches have said they will not be playing their starting quarterbacks, but also noted the backups won't play either! Las Vegas is currently a 6.5 point favorite at BetOnline and the total is set at 35. With the lack of actual starters playing in this game, 35 looks like a tough number to cover.

Jets at Packers - The lowest total on the board belongs to this Saturday afternoon matchup The total at WagerWeb on this game is 31.5 for a reason. The Jets managed just 12 point last week, despite playing time for No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson. The Packers got smoked 26-7 loss to Houston as three-point favorites. Arron Rodgers' backup, Jordan Love, is banged up with a shoulder issue and is questionable heading into the weekend, so don't expect him to play. In Week 1 "Over" bettors got crushed as the teams went 3-13 O/U last week.

MLB Betting opportunities

The playoff picture is becoming much clearer and this weekend there are several key series to watch and wager on.

Phillies Padres weekend series bettingThe Phillies looked poised to take over the NL East after Jason DeGrom's season ending injury destroyed the Mets' hopes and the addition of starter Kyle Gibson and closer Ian Kennedy at the trade deadline. They won eight straight to  start August, but have faltered so badly that getting swept by the Arizona this week isn't a huge surprise. This weekend is do-or-die for Philadelphia as they head into San Diego. The Padres are doing their own form of choking, going 1-8 in the last nine days. BetOnline thinks the Phillies are in for a rough weekend, as they have the Padres at -190 to win this three game series. The Phillies send Matt Moore to the hill tonight and sportsbooks around the globe have the Padres as massive 2-1 moneyline favorites. A -1.5 run line bet on the Padres, may start off the weekend right.

The most anticipated series this weekend is between the Chicago White Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays at god-awful Tropicana Field. The Rays got a nice boost this weekend by crushing the Baltimore Orioles in four straight games. The ChiSox are 13-8 this season when playing with a day off and start Dallas Keuchel on Saturday night. Jazz Sports has them as +105 underdogs to win the weekend series. The Brew Crew is 7-3 in their last 10 while the Pirates are just 1-9.

Best of luck to bettors with all of your wagers this weekend.
