Preview, Prediction for Cowboys vs Eagles

The NFL 2025 season kicks off with a Thursday night division duel and the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles (-9) are the biggest favorite Week 1 over the Dallas Cowboys. BetOnline bettors have driven the number up this week from -7.5 supporting the Eagles. But a higher-scoring game has some trends and statistical support in the Week 1 NFC East showcase with the game total up to 47.5.

Dallas at Philadelphia

The Cowboys and Eagles have plenty of personnel returning including QB’s Dak Prescott (off injury) and Jalen Hurts. Star RB and Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley is running behind Pro Football Focus’ No. 1 rated offensive line into the 2025 season. Barkley rushed for more than 2,000 yards last season and the Eagles led the NFC in rushing at 179 yards per game.

Along with top, talented receivers on both teams in CeeDee Lamb (1,194 yards), Jalen Tolbert (610) and newcomer George Pickens (900), plus Eagles stars AJ Brown (1,073) and Devonta Smith (833), more big plays and scoring is expected. The Eagles won both matchups last season 34-6 and 41-7 at home, but Cowboys QB Prescott missed both games with injury. The Eagles and Cowboys have averaged 55 points per game in their last nine meetings with the games going ‘over’ the total seven times. 

Eagles Week 1 games have gone 3-0 over/under the last three years averaging 60 points per game. Over the past four years, NFC contests are 14-1 over/under when the home team is favored by -5 or more points. Also, home favorites of greater than 3 points are 14-1 over/under in Weeks 1-4 the past three years if they won 14 or more games the previous season.
