LSU-Coastal Carolina to decide College World Series champion
The first day of summer hits this weekend as the College World Series best-of-3 championship series begins in Omaha between the favored LSU Tigers and Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
Leading online sportsbooks have posted series and Game 1 odds for Saturday's opening matchup. Top online sportsbook BetOnline offers dime line basetball betting odds along with affiliate Sportsbetting.ag. They opened LSU (-190) as nearly a 2/1 favorite to take home the title over Coastal Carolina (+155), and the Tigers entered the college baseball season with the second-best odds (7/1) to be the last team standing in Omaha. LSU's dramatic 3-run 9th inning walk-off 6-5 victory last night against SEC rival Arkansas sent the Tigers (51-15) to the championship series where they face the Chanticleers (56-11). Coastal Carolina is the Sun Belt conference's best, and they roll into the championship series riding a 26-game winning streak. The Chanticleers have outscored NCAA Tournament opponents 64-25, so this is no "underdog."
What LSU coach Jay Johnson said, and the Tigers togetherness.
"This is a model team, and there hasn't been much of this. It's been a consistent effort from, whatever, August 24, first team meeting through the ninth inning tonight. I think about the walk-off wins we had at home against these guys (Arkansas), against Tennessee. And they just stay with it."
"The mental toughness is really like nothing I've ever seen before, and the investment in the team. We've got guys who are going to go to pro baseball, but it's all about this. I mean, it's not just a saying. Like at LSU baseball the expectation of the baseball players I'll place the needs of the team above my own. We have so many examples of that. I'm just really thankful."
