The Texas A&M Aggies will have to deal with the offensive onslaught from the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Orange Bowl game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Saturday.

The one hurdle the Texas A&M Aggies (8-1 SU, 5-4 ATS) couldn't get over was a team that is playing in the national championship game. Other than that, they were perfect, and they really thought that they should have gotten a spot in the college football playoff. Unfortunately, there was no room for them, but they've made it to a New Year's Six bowl.

On Saturday night they will take on the North Carolina Tar Heels, who have one of the most potent offenses in the nation, in a game that begins at 8 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

North Carolina (8-3 SU, 5-6 ATS) is very familiar with this field, having run up and down the length of it in the process of routing Miami 62 - 26 last month. In that game they put together an extraordinary scary offencsive display that the A%M people have to be worried about.

You might say, "Well, the Aggies gave up only 3.3 yards per carry in a top-notch conference like the SEC." well that is true, and the team was 10th overall nationally in Total Defense, you have to wonder how to "up" they are going to be for this bowl game if you're not getting where they really wanted to go.

This game matches coaches who have won national championships before. Jimbo Fisher, of course, coached at Florida State, where he had Jameis Winston win the Heisman Trophy and take him to the National crown. That was before he took an astronomical money offer from the Aggies. Mack Brown won a national title at the University of Texas, where his quarterback was Vince Young, and he was a commentator for ESPN before coming back to take the North Carolina job.

In the college football odds that have been established on this Orange Bowl game by our friends at BetAnySports, Texas A&M is a considerable favorite:

Texas A&M Aggies -9.5
North Carolina Tar Heels + 9.5

Over 65 points - 110
Under 65 points - 110

What's great about the North Carolina offense is the fact that they can beat you to death either through the air or on the ground. Example – Sam Howell, the sophomore quarterback, threw for 550 yards against Wake Forest, and in another game, played at Hard Rock, the Tar Heels ran for 554 yards against nationally - ranked Miami.

In the backfield, Javonte Williams and Michael Carter combined for 7.7 yards per rushing attempt, and to say that the "touches" were balanced evenly would be a massive understatement (Williams had 182, Carter 181).

Defensive lapses are what caused North Carolina to lose three-point decisions against Virginia and Florida State while solidly favored. And Notre Dame slow them down considerably in a 31 - 17 win, becoming the opponent all year to hold the Heels under 400 yards.

Texas A&M suffered its only loss against Alabama, but that came by four touchdowns (52 - 24). However, they came back the next week to beat Florida, which was considered a national championship contender, with a quarterback (Kyle Trask) who is a Heisman finalist.

In Isaiah Spiller (993 yards) and Ainias Smith (49 receptions), they have running backs who provide a lot of variety. and then there is the mobile Kellen Mond, who completed 63.5% of his passes with 19 touchdowns, and threw only three interceptions. These Aggies managed to move the chains at a pretty steady rate, ranking second the country in third-down conversions, at 56.7%.

But while we know Texas A&M has a lot of artillery, we have to question whether they can just run and hide against this North Carolina team, especially if they are not 100% focused for it. If nothing else, the Tar Heels, ranking fourth in the nation at 557 yards per game, with seven different 40-point-plus performances, can come in through the "back door." so we will go ahead and take the points.
