Week 2 NFL betting odds and advice
History shows that Week 2 in the NFL invariably provides more surprises and upsets. Teams that start with a loss and 0-1 bring a more focused and determined effort. Betting angles and results support 0-1 teams facing 1-0 teams, as the winless teams are 54-40 ATS the past 20 years. Also, when two 0-1 ATS teams play each other in Week 2, the underdog is 51-28-3 ATS (65%), per Bet Labs.

NFL Week 2 Tips, Totals and Teasers
New England at Miami - Under 43.5
Check the NFL weather and note that a 50%+ chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms is in the afternoon forecast Sunday in Miami. Both the Patriots and Dolphins offenses project to struggle to reach 300 yards.
The Dolphins were a disaster in Week 1, running just 46 plays with 3 Tua turnovers, 12 first downs, 12 rushing attempts (78 yards) and 211 total yards at 4.6 yards per play in a 33-8 loss at Indianapolis. The Patriots 20-13 home loss to the Raiders saw NE gain 336 yards at 4.9 yards per play. Both these games went under the total in a low-scoring Week 1 that averaged 41.5 points in all games with O/U results 4-12.
LA Rams at Tennessee - Under 41.5
Both teams struggled to score last week with the Rams 14-9 win over Houston saw LA gain 296 yards at 5.2 yards per play against a stronger Texans defense. The Titans were a Week 1 worst on offense with 7 first downs, 71 yards rushing, 62 passing, 133 total yards at 2.4 yards per play as top draft pick, QB Cam Ward struggled in the Mile High. Tennessee's defensive strength did force 4 Broncos turnovers in a 20-12 defeat.
2-team 6-point teasers now require bettors to lay at least -125 with many leading online sportsbooks charging -130 or even -140! A 3-team 6 point teaser provides odds of +150 or +160 and 6.5 point teaser +120 or +130.
Not a bullish week for teasers, but here are 3 to consider.
- Patriots (+7.5), Jaguars (+9.5 or 10), Cardinals (-0.5)
More stats and ATS notes
Dating to last season, the Browns' team total on a game-by-game basis has gone 15-3 to the under. The Browns defense in Week 1 held Bengals QB Joe Burrow to 113 passing yards on just 14 completions. Cleveland's defense allowed 2.9 yards per play and 11 first downs in a 17-16 loss, but ATS win as 'Dog. NFL teams off a non-division loss in which they scored 40+ points (Ravens) are 18-5 ATS in their next game (Playbook Sports).
San Francisco QB Brock Purdy is out in Week 2 (and likely longer) following Week 1 injuries with both a left shoulder injury and turf toe. Quarterback Mac Jones will start for the 49ers Week 2 at New Orleans.
The Texans have gone 7-12 ATS as a favorite with CJ Stroud starting at quarterback.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is 15-2 ATS in his NFL career as an underdog (or pick 'em), including 7-0 ATS if opponent is not off a double-digit win.
Last week home underdogs were just 1-6 SU and 3-4 ATS in Week 1. The Gold Sheet stats and research note that games in Weeks 1-3 involving home underdogs are 53-27-1 (66%) to the Under (game total).
Week 3 advance odds on division games:
- Miami at Buffalo (-10)
- Indianapolis (-2) at Tennessee
- Atlanta (-2) at Carolina
- Houston at Jacksonville (-1.5)
- Denver at LA Chargers (-2.5) - Bet Chargers

Perfection Reflection - NFL Week 2
Along with top online sportsbooks adjustments, Week 2 of the NFL season is always one of my favorites and brings back great memories and perfection reflection. During the 2009 season when I was doing national radio and a daily sports betting show in Las Vegas, I posted and provided picks and analysis and my Week 2 picks went 10-0 ATS.
Along with our weekly NFL tips, totals and teasers, check back for more picks, props and parlays with information you can bet on. Let's try to avoid those teams (Ravens, Bears) that blow 10-point fourth quarter leads in defeat, and teams with too many turnovers (Broncos, 4 in win, 1/2 point ATS loss) that prove costly when watching and wagering.
You can bet on it.
