OSGA Progressive Pickem Contest

FairwayJay chips in NFL betting advice and strategies for Week 14 to kick off December. Tips, totals, teasers and trends with information you can bet on.

Some of the worst games and performances of the season were played on Sunday of Week 13, which followed some terrific high-profile games over Thanksgiving when the underdogs went 4-0 SU and ATS to provide big profits for the top online sportsbooks

For the 5th straight week, there were more unders than overs on game totals. After a pair of high-scoring shootouts to kickoff Week 13 on Thanksgiving Day with the Packers 31-24 road win over the Lions and Cowboys 31-28 home 'Dog win over the Chiefs, scoring took a nosedive with Sunday day games averging just 38.7 points across 10 games - about 7 points below the season scoring average. The three Thanksgiving Day games averaged 53.3 points per game and the Sunday Night and Monday Night Football features scored 53 and 48 points.

Fairways Forecast chipped in a 3-0 ATS result on Week 13 picks with 3 outright underdog winners including the Cowboys, which completed a 2-team parlay for profit. But o-fer on player props in Week 13 including two over Thanksgiving as we'll defer to others than QB rushing props ahead. The Week 13 tips on totals went 2-1 and now 5-1 the last two weeks.

Thursday Night Prime Time Feature And Stats

Thursday night's Dallas at Detroit game has the highest total of the week, up to 53.5 or 54 points and now some 54.5 showing. Still not enough, as Green Bay's slower-paced offense had 360 yards offense at 6.0 yards per play in a 31-24 Thanksgiving Day win at Detroit with the Lions nearly identical rushing, passing total yards and plays and first downs. The Cowboys produced 457 yards at 7.2 yards per play in a 31-28 Thanksgiving Day win over the Chiefs - both NFL Week 13 highs. The Lions are now 13-1 ATS off a loss under head coach Dan Campbell after failing most recently as a 14-point favorite in a 34-27 OT win at home over the Giants off a loss. The defending NFC North champions Lions have alternated wins and losses since the start of October, going 4-4 SU and 3-5 ATS.

Both the Lions (7-5) and Cowboys (6-5-1) are in the playoff wild card chase with five games remaining, but 2 and 1.5 games behind division leaders Chicago and Philadelphia, who played last Friday with the Bears (+7) upset win over the Super Bowl champion Eagles, 24-15. Chicago produced a week-high 281 rushing yards on 47 attempts and 28 first downs in victory. Teams that run the ball at least 30 times in a game this season are winning more than 83% of games and better than 78% ATS on a sample size of more than 110 games. Teams that run the ball less than 23 times in a game are less than 18% ATS success.

That's some of the information from my proprietary stats and database of weekly updates from boxscores. Note too that teams that rush for at leat 150 yards in a NFL game this season are 51-14-1 SU and 43-23 ATS.

Injuries, Weather And Wind

Check out the Week 14 injury reports, and monitor the NFL weather. Cleveland has freezing temperatures near 20 degrees and a 30% chance of snow with 10 mph winds and slightly stronger gusts. Potential rain at other cities and most likely in Tampa and Jacksonville also with 10-15 mph winds.

According to Playbook Sports Totals Tipsheet, NFL games with winds at 7+ miles per hour went 1-7 over/under in Week 13, and now 1-9 over/under the last two weeks and 6-18 O/U since Week 10. NFL games with winds at 10 or more MPH are 8-20 O/U so far this season, and 70-125 in the last four years (64% Under).

The Titans-Browns game in Cleveland has the lowest total of the season. I lean under, but won't get involved with two completely clueless bumbling Bro QB's trying to find their way. Seven of the recent eight Browns games have had game totals posted less than 40 points, but are 5-3 over/under. The Titans pathetic offense is averaging league lows 14.2 points per game, 242 yards and tied with the Browns at 4.2 yards per play offense as QB Shedeur Sanders makes his third straight start. The Browns offense under Sanders has produced 270 and 253 yards offense with 11 and 15 first downs - ugh, good luck.

A 3-0 sweep on our Week 12 NFL totals and 3-0 teasers was followed by Week 13 totals going 2-1 (opinions). That leads us into more tips, totals, teasers and trends this week. NFL sides and picks 5-0 the last three weeks after a 3-0 sweep in Week 13. Picks and Opinions are 10-4 the last three weeks and more to follow in our Week 14 picks, props and parlays over the weekend.

Week 14 Game Totals

Texans/Chiefs - Under

Opinions

- Cowboys/Lions - Over
- Steelers/Ravens - Under
- Rams/Cardinals - Under (added Sat)

Sat. update note that rain is most likely during two Florida games in Tampa and Jacksonville, and both totals had dipped. Lean 'under' the total, and monitor, watch and bet accordingly live/in-game betting.

More totals tips and trends with information you can bet on in my NFL Week 14 report at BetOnline.

Texans-Chiefs - This is the lowest game total of the season for a Chiefs home game, and those contests at Arrowhead Stadium ar 1-5 over/under with 4-straight unders. The Chiefs defense held the stronger Colts (last home game) and Lions offenses to 20 and 17 points and 255 and 297 yards offense. Houston has the NFL's No. 1 defense allowing just 16.5 points per game, 267 yards and 4.7 yards per play. Both run defenses are top-10 holding opponents to 91 and 100 yards per game averages.

The Lions have a number of offensive lineman injured, and top WR Amon-St. Brown (ankle) is likely out along with a safety out and cornerback concerns.

Player Props

No player props as official picks, but add some stats and notes. Cowboys wide receivers George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb both have over/under receiving yards at 82.5 yards and should produce again tonight. A sports betting colleage passed along some added stats and insight on Pickens, and his projected longest reception (over/under 25.5 yards).

Pickens has topped a longest reception of 25.5 yards in 7 of his last 9 games including 3 straight. His two games that went under were against the Broncos and Cardinals, and Arizona plays the second-highest rate of 2-high safeties. The Lions are No. 31. The Broncos rank No. 23 in 2-high rate and No. 11 in single-high safety rate. The Lions rank No. 4, using a single high safety nearly 10% more often than Denver and playing the No. highest rate of man coverage in the NFL. Plenty of big chunk plays expected Thursday night.

Teasers

- Cowboys, Seahawks, Jaguars, Vikings, Packers.

Added Vikings and Packers on Sat. with Minnesota (+1.5 / 2) now an underdog and Commanders QB Jayden Daniels expected to play, along with MIN QB J.J. McCarlthy. Bears have injuries at linebacker, and WR Rome Odunze (foot) is out.

Steelers-Ravens And Trends

The Steelers (6-6) vs. Ravens (6-6) first place showdown in Baltimore shows this highly-contested series 1-9 over/under the last 10 meetings averaging 33.2 combined points per game, and 9-of-10 games finished at 42 points or less. Both teams allowing slightly more points than they have scored. The Ravens are scoring an average of 24.1 points per game and Steelers 23.6. Both defenses are below average this season allowing 24.4 and 24.1 points per game. The Ravens have only outgained their opponents in 3 of 12 games, although QB Lamar Jackson missed three games with a hamstring issue. The Ravens scored 40 and 41 points in their first two games this season. Both teams are 1-4 over/under in their last five games with the Ravens facing four mostly clueless quarterbacks until Joe Burrow tore them apart last Thursday in a 32-14 Bengals road win as a 7-point underdog. Now Aaron Rodgers gets his big moment against the Ravens twice in the final month. The Steelers defense has faced QB's Josh Allen, Caleb Williams, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love since October, and lost all those games along with losing to Seattle and Sam Darnold in September. The Steelers have had one good road win this season at New England, but Pittsburgh gained just 203 yards offense and was out-gained by more than 160 yards as the Patriots had 4 turnovers in defeat. I won't be on the Steelers as an underdog pick, after hitting 57% ATS from 2017-2023 picking only NFL underdogs here at OSGA. There will be other 'Dogs this week, and still considering the Ravens as a teaser option. Both the Steelers and Ravens are 2-1 in division play, and will meet again in Week 18 at Pittsburgh perhaps to decide the division champion.

Note big road favorites Seahawks (-7 / 7.5) and Broncos (-7.5) this week. Playbooks Totals Tipsheet notes that Sunday big road favorites of -7.5 or more have gone 22-5-1 over/under in the last 3 seasons. We're still reviewing more stats and matchups in those contests, which are both indoors. The Seahawks won and shutout the Vikings last week 26-0. NFL road teams off a home shutout win have gone 13-1 over/under since 2017 with seven straight overs.

More updates and any additional tips, totals and trends ahead of Sunday's games.
