What’s a Small Internet Bettor to Do?

Posted by Jim Quinn on 09 Aug 2011 | Tagged as: OffShore Insiders

Ever since BetJamaica and The Greek made the decision to stop taking players from the United States, we have gotten bombarded with calls, emails and chats. Many of the inquiries come from smaller players, guys who bet less than $50 per play. One of the biggest concerns of many of these players is after BetJamaica, “Where do I go from here?”

The problem for smaller bettors is finding a place that will accept both a small wager AND a small deposit; less than the fifty or $100 that most online sportsbooks require. BetJamaica was one of the top places for the ‘little guy’ to play. They would take deposits as little as $25 and their typical minimum wager was also $25. Still, they would bend their rules even further for players and often took as little as $10 over the phone, during off-peak times. We scoured through the Elite and Premier rated sportsbooks and have come up with three viable options for the “little guy”. Many books may ‘bend their rules’ for a player or two, but these three outfits have always worked out for the smaller player.

BetOnline has always had a minimum phone wager of $25. Now they have lowered their deposit to the same low figure. A BetOnline spokesperson told us, “We have worked very hard to ensure that we have the best credit processing in the industry—and we do. And we’ve lowered our minimum deposit to only $25, so even the casual one-off player can come and enjoy the game—any game: sports betting poker, casino.” BetOnline is located in Panama and features a vast call center and over a decade in the business.

Badlands is another outfit that takes bets as low as $25. This medium-size outfit is located in Costa Rica and has always welcomed smaller bettors. Their limits and many policies are very similar to BetJamaica’s. Badlands told us that they do not want “any of the little guys to get left out in the cold.” Their lowest amount deposit amount is also just $25.

WagerWeb is also located in Costa Rica. This book has been around as long as anyone and offers a ton of player perks. In addition to their minimum deposit of $25, they will take small wagers over the phone and just $1 bets over the Internet.

Lastly, ALL players are welcome over at Heritage Sports. This invitation-only sportsbook took over all of the US-based player account from the two Jamaican companies. Traditionally Heritage has taken $50 deposits and has a $50 minimum wager over the phone, but they will bend the rules for anyone of their new players.

One common way used to transfer small amounts to an Internet gambling house is via a pre-paid Visa card. Players have told us that this is a great method to use. These cards can be obtained at any large store these days and are virtually fee-free. Credit Cards, including the pre-paid variety can used for as low as $25 at both BetOnline and Badlands. For players who would prefer to use cash, WagerWeb is the only place that we found that will allow players to deposit $25 via a person-to-person transfer.

While the business has changed over the years and many outfits are looking for $50 wagers and $200 deposits, the places mentioned above will take care of small bettors, and more importantly, pay when they win.
