UEFA Champions League Preview

The UEFA Champions League round of 16 resumes this week and with a spot in the quarter-finals up for grabs, we should expect extraordinary efforts from all the teams involved.

Ajax travels to Spain's capital city with a substantial obstacle in front of them. Los Blancos bested the Dutch-men during their first meeting and now with an opportunity to shock the defending champs, the Eredivisie representatives feel confident they are catching Real Madrid at the perfect time of the season.

The featured match on Tuesday's card is a rematch of a 3-0 final at Wembley stadium. The Londoners produced a spectacular second half that built a commanding three-goal lead, and now the German's have their back's against the wall in pursuit of overcoming Spurs considerable advantage.

Dortmund is in the middle of a tailspin on multiple fronts. The BVB have seen their lead atop the Bundesliga table evaporate and are now hanging onto their European aspirations needing a minor miracle to overcome a three-goal deficit.

Lucien Favre has done an excellent job in his maiden season with the club. The Swiss manager is now dealing with his first spell of adversity since taking over the coaching duties, and now the veteran task-master must help reverse the team's recent fortunes, with the hopes of salvaging what had been a memorable campaign for the Black and Yellows.

The BVB's Return To Health

The Germans recent tailspin has been due to several key injuries to essential figures within the squad. Marco Reus was the most notable of the BVB members to find himself on the sidelines, but now the Dortmund captain has recovered from his recent ailment, providing the hosts with their most influential player for the stretch run of the season.

Reus seemed to be feeling his way back into the fold on Friday night. Although Dortmund fell to Augsburg in a shocking 2-1 result, the German international got valuable match time before Tuesday night's big event. The creative midfielder is the real leader on the pitch and gives his team a spark when pushing forward in attack.

Favre will have a full complement of players to choose from as he attempts to turn the leg one deficit around. Paco Alcacer will be the central figure to lead the BVB front-line, the Spanish striker has been a revelation since arriving at Dortmund earlier in the season.

The former Barcelona man has taken the Bundesliga by storm. Scoring 14 goals since dawning the Black and Yellow jersey, Alcacer has given the Germans a genuine goal-scoring threat in the final third of the pitch, offering real value to find the back of the net against the Englishmen on Tuesday night.

Jadon Sancho will also play a pivotal role in the teams overall success. The young phenom busted onto the scene with much fanfare, earning a starting spot on the teams front-line on a regular basis. His pace and overall skill set with the ball at his feet has been undeniable, with 9 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, Sancho has made USMNT member Christian Pulisic expendable.

Dortmund has had a hard time topping Tottenham as of late, losing their last three matches when paired up with the EPL side. The Germans should be motivated to have a better showing in front of their loyal supporters, who will push them to grab a positive result in hopes of advancing into the quarter-finals.

Tottenham has been in poor form themselves. After defeating Dortmund two weeks ago, the north Londoner's have failed to grab a victory in their last three outings.

Mauricio Pochettino understands that winning the Champions League is now the teams best chance of collecting a trophy during the 2018-2019 season.

Pochettino has found lifting silverware a challenge during his time on the sidelines.Praised for turning the Spurs organization around after arriving from Southampton in 2014, the Argentine manager has still been unable to capture an elusive title to solidify himself as one of the best coaches in the world.

Kane's Return To The Lineup

Harry Kane has made his way back to the starting eleven, after suffering an ankle injury against Manchester United in January. Kane has immediately gone back to work since being reinserted into the rotation, scoring two goals over the past three matches. The Golden Boot winner is a handful for defenders to contain, with no real weaknesses in front of goal, Kane will be Dortmund's main priority when game planning for Spur's arrival.

Son Heung-Min should be the main benefactor with all the attention shown to his fellow front-line mate. The South Korean was responsible for the opening goal the last time these two European giants hooked up and with Tottenham expected to sit back in more of a defensive manner this go around, Heung-Min will be especially dangerous in counter-attacking situations, as he attempts to grab the all-important away goal.

The visitors are dealing with a host of key injuries throughout their squad, most notably Dele Alli who is still not back to full match fitness. Alli has been a major miss behind Kane in the attack. The young English-man is scheduled to return soon, although Spurs would rather have him available for this final match-up with the Black and Yellows on foreign soil.

Tottenham holds a considerable advantage as the opening whistle arrives, after compiling a three-goal cushion Spurs are in the driver's seat to advance to the quarter-finals. The Londoner's should stay organized and compact, wanting to limit any damage and strike the German's on the counter-attack when the opportunity arises, knowing that an away goal will all but seal Dortmund's fate.

Dortmund vs. Tottenham - Match Preview

Dortmund has the blueprint for overturning this type of situation after both Barcelona and Roma reversed three-goal differentials over the past few seasons.

The BVB are currently enduring a horrid stretch with only one win out of their last seven, but this team has plenty of talent throughout their 18 man squad, fully capable of pulling the ultimate shocker, especially own their pitch where they are averaging 3 goals per match.

Dortmund - Team Total Over 1.5  -135 / 1.74 - Goals

Favre has constructed a lethal attacking side using his wingers to create havoc for opposing back-lines. The home side are sure to pressure Spurs from the start. Unleashing both Reus and Sancho down the flanks, the duo will have the freedom to locate open members in threatening positions or finish the final product with deadly accuracy.

Tottenham understands they will be under immense pressure while at the Westfalenstadion. Wanting to use Dortmund's aggression against them, look for Spurs to set the break into motion where they are a threat to score at a moments notice.

I expect a professional approach from the Londoners. Wanting to avoid any significant injuries with a multiple-goal advantage, Spurs should try and slow the pace down as they attempt to frustrate the Black and Yellows.

I fully anticipate Tottenham advancing through into the quarter-finals, although Dortmund should have enough to grab a victory to close out their Champions League run.
