UEFA Champions League - Match Day Three

Day one of match-day three is now in the books, and with no huge upsets to speak of, the usual suspects Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Roma and Juventus all collected victories in their quest for European glory.

Wednesday's card is once again full of Europe's top clubs, with Liverpool, Psg, Barcelona, Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid all in action, as the opportunity to place their names in the Round of 16, is the first matter of business.

The opening match on the UEFA schedule is a beauty, as Dutch powers PSV Eindhoven get ready to do battle with Tottenham, who will make the trip to the Netherlands in desperate need of a victory, as their Champions League dreams are hanging on a string.

Philips Stadion, Eindhoven, Netherlands

PSV Eindhoven will enter this contest in need of a victory themselves. After entering the tournament with plenty of excitement, the "Peasants" have been knocked back down to earth, posting an overall record of 0-0-2, and a goal differential of -5 in this unforgiving four-some.

Mark van Bommel was introduced back to his former team under unusual circumstances, after PSV won the Eredivisie title last season for the first time since 2008, Phillip Cocu decided to leave his post for Turkish outfit Fenerbache.  Now under new leadership, the Dutch champs have reeled off 9 straight domestic victories, giving them plenty of belief against this powerful Spurs unit.

The 'Farmers' have had no problem scoring goals to start their new campaign, already seeing 36 balls hit the back of the net during league play. They have averaged a gaudy 4 per match in this highly successful stretch. The home side will send once again send out their high octane rotation, primarily based out of a 4-3-3 alignment, the Dutch-men have overwhelmed their opponents, with their free flowing style of play.

Forwards Luuk de Jong and Hirving Lozano have been outstanding at the top of the PSV line, combining for 16 Goals and 3 Assists, this combination should give Tottenham plenty of fits, as each are full of confidence in front of goal. Lozano will have added motivation as the match begins, heavily rumored to make a move to Spurs, the Mexican international will certainly want to give a great account of himself, in front of this classic English brand.

The hosts play a eye-appealing brand of football, for those who have not witnessed them as of yet, they do a great job of using their electric wingers to keep defenses on their heels, while also housing several members, who can breakdown their defenders in one-on-one situations. The Dutch-men can create chances on goal with the best teams in the world, while also finishing those opportunities at an astounding rate, it would be no surprise to see them get multiple goals past their EPL opponents.

PSV Eindhoven have benefited from a healthy squad for the majority of the campaign, only New Zealand midfielder Ryan Thomas is a doubt, giving Mark van Bommel a full crop of players to choose from, as he attempts to rebound from a unforgettable start to the UCL Group Stage.

Tottenham land in the Netherlands having been outdueled through their first two matches, losing to both group leaders Inter Milan and Barcelona, Spurs need all three points, in order to have a realistic shot of competing for the Round of 16.have all been key contributors to the Londoners sustained success, and will place additional stress

Mauricio Pochettino has been under a spotlight to finally win a trophy, although the Argentine manager has brought a winning culture back to North London, Pochettino has still been unable to grab any silverware, for all his great work with the club.

The Spurs manager will have a difficult road in order to obtain a UEFA title, with injuries to key contributors Deli AlliDanny Rose and Victor Wanyama, Pochettino will be forced to lean on his full squad, if the Londoner's are to turn their misfortunes around.

The main threat in Tottenham's attack continues to be Harry Kane, the Golden Boot winner is already up to his old tricks, posting 7 Goals in all competitions, the powerful center-forward is a constant mismatch in and around the box, as he is able to finish in a variety of ways. Kane should draw plenty of attention from PSV's back-line, the hosts are not used to contending with such an imposing figure in front of goal, the English-man is certain to make life difficult, for those attempting to mark him.

The visitor's must also lean on the services of Christian Eriksen, the Dane midfielder is the true creator from his number ten-role. Eriksen should be fresh for this contest, he was saved for much of their match against West Ham over the weekend, making a short cameo in the second half, as Pochettino understands the importance of his classy play-maker, who truly makes this Spurs engine run.

Spurs seem likely to call on Serge AurierSon Heung-min and Mousa Dembele, who all fit perfectly into Tottenham's 4-2-3-1. The veteran trio will not be overwhelmed by this situation, having been involved with plenty of high-profiled matches over the past few years, this stage should only bring out the best, for these invaluable pieces to the Londoner's sustained success.

PSV Eindhoven vs Tottenham - Match Prediction

Wednesday's contest is setup to be worth the price of admission, with each team in prime form, there should be plenty of offense as these two sides look to get their first victory in Group B.

Both teams enjoy playing on the front foot, still I cannot see a major possession discrepancy by one side or the other, as each club will get their fare share of chances to light up the score-board. The Total has exceed 2.5 Goals, in their last 11 combined UEFA's matches.

Expect a fairly open event, with the first goal really setting this contest in motion, as I expect each side to hit the back of the net, by the conclusion of this must see event.
