The AFC West-leading Kansas City Chiefs host their closest pursuers, the Los Angeles Chargers, at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs have quickly gained a reputation for being one of the more dominant and explosive teams in the National Football League, with a chance to gain home field advantage in the playoffs. Yet, the Los Angeles Chargers could actually forge a tie in the AFC West if they can come up with a victory in Thursday night's meeting, which will be televised on FOX starting at 8:20 PM ET. While BetAnySports customers are watching the game at Arrowhead Stadium, they can place wagers in real-time using the apparatus known as Live Betting Ultra.

mit that the Chargers have made some progress since the season opener, when Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdown passes against them and made it too difficult to play catch-up.

Kansas City Chiefs TNF free pickIt's also well worth noting that the Chargers had 33 first downs and got a 418-yard effort out of Philip Rivers in that game. And that has been the story with KC for much of the year - an ability to put together scoring drives against just about everybody, with the inability to stop teams with any kind of real consistency. Every little bit helps, and it's not a little thing that safety Eric Berry, the future Hall of Famer, could see action in this one after sitting out the whole season with a heel injury.

In the Thursday night NFL betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Chiefs are the home favorites:

Kansas City Chiefs -3.5
Los Angeles Chargers +3.5

Over 53 points -110
Under 53 points -110

By now, everyone is aware that Kareem Hunt, who had led the league in rushing as a rookie, is not available for the Chiefs. And Spencer Ware (shoulder injury) is listed as doubtful. The Chargers may have their own problems at the running back spot, as Melvin Gordon, a heavily-used dual-threat with a knee injury, is a game-time decision. Austin Ekeler, his backup, who can also make plays, is out with a neck injury. This would obviously push Rivers to the air a little more, and would make the Chargers less able to exploit the weak run defense of the Chiefs.

Joey Bosa, a formidable pass LA Chargers vs Chiefs pickrusher, missed the season opener but is back here. So naturally part of the Bolts' defensive efforts need to center on getting some pressure on Mahomes. Keep in mind, however, that Tyreek Hill has 334 receiving yards in the last three meetings with this Charger secondary.

One has to consider the history between these teams, and truth be told, that's the way it is in all these AFC West matchups. And in this one, the Chiefs have registered ten straight wins over the Bolts, covering eight of them. But things are not "trending" well for Andy Reid's team from the pointspread perspective, as they have covered just one of their last six.

Yes, some of that involves the fact that the oddsmakers have caught up to this team, but this number would seem reasonable, wouldn't it?

The home teams in these Thursday night games have gone 11-2 ATS, as well as 30-13-2 against the number since 2016. It goes without saying that we're looking at an interesting trend there.

We know what this L.A. team is capable of; we just saw them come from way behind to beat Pittsburgh on the road. But Kansas City has held him to 12 TD passes with 14 interceptions in these last nine encounters, a meaningful pattern. We'll lay the points.
