The long-anticipated wait for legal sports betting in Pennsylvania has come to an end, with Hollywood Casino in Grantville becoming the first to accept a wager.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course opened its sportsbook unannounced and to little fanfare at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15. After a two-day test period required by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the sportsbook was given the go-ahead for its official launch on Saturday, Nov. 17.

How to bet
The sportsbook is located on the second floor of the Hollywood Casino facility, with more than 30 televisions to follow the action. At the start, only in-person wagers made over the counter are being accepted.

Mobile sports betting is expected to follow sometime in early 2019.

Hollywood Casino won the race to become the first to offer sports betting in Pennsylvania. Its parent company, Wyomissing-based Penn National Gaming, narrowly beat out Parx Casino and Sugar House Casino in the Philadelphia area, and Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh.

Sports betting hours at Hollywood Casino, 777 Hollywood Boulevard, Grantville are 11 a.m.-midnight Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m.-midnight Saturdays and Sundays.
