San Francisco 49ers Preview

You'll likely get plenty of free looks this season on national TV as the San Francisco 49ers try to avenge their NFC title loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

I'm surprised the NFL didn't create "the NFL West Football Network" and charge you to watch this year it's so strong. Between the 49ers, Super Bowl champion Seahawks, an Arizona Cardinals team that just missed the playoffs last season and the improving Rams, they might have an opportunity.

You'll likely get plenty of free looks this season on national TV as the San Francisco 49ers try to avenge their NFC title loss to the Hawks. QB Colin Kaepernick is solid and should only improve with all-pro target WR Michael Crabtree and potential Hall of Fame RB Frank Gore leading the offense. They added speedy wide-out Stevie Johnson from the Bills and drafted Carlos Hyde from Ohio State to eventually replace Gore. The Niners ranked 30th in passing at only 186 yards in a pass-happy league according to stats compiled at Diamond Sportsbook and that has to improve.

The 49ers odds to win the Super Bowl currently sit at slightly more than 7.5-1 and their season win total at Betdsi.eu sits at 10.5 with a huge amount of action coming in on Under.

No basic problems on the offensive line but all Super Bowl dreams go through the multi-talented Caepernick. Should he go down, young Blaine Gabbert is now their back-up and he deserves a chance at QB under head coach Jim Harbaugh's guidance to show his potential talent as well.

The 49ers Super Bowl hopes have been dashed because of  their defense and coach Harbaugh will attest to that reflecting back to their disappointments the last two years against the Seahawks and the Ravens the year before that in the big game. They took Jimmie Ward at DB in the draft and he must contribute immediately to their strong unit, which is a bit nicked-up. DE Aldon Smith will start the season out on suspension and will be without linebacker NaVorro Bowman at least until November. We'll see how they will adjust to losing Carlos Rogers & Tarell Brown across the bay to the Raiders plus Donte Whitner to Cleveland. Good news is Patrick Willis is back and always solid as their captain.

Betting the Niners

Quoting accurate numbers from Diamond Sportsbook, the Niners were an impressive 11-5 against the spread last year, helped out by an amazing 7-1 ATS on the road. I wouldn't look for that to repeat this year due to the question marks, so there could be certain opportunities to play against, especially when they must lay points on the road.

6 of their last 8 games as a favorite they have gone UNDER the Total, indicating their strength toward playing excellent defense. If you like the Niners as a favorite and insist on a parlay this season, it might be wiser to consider under the total as the better co-op investment.
