Officials in Pennsylvania are continuing to debate whether the legalisation and introduction of online gaming could help the state remain competitive within the expanding gambling market in the US.

As previously reported by iGaming Business, the state is currently considering a number of bills that could lead to the regulation of online gaming activities.

One piece of legislature has been put forward by Representative John Payne, the chairman of the House Gaming Oversight Committee, which last week led a hearing where officials discussed ways to boost Pennsylvania's gaming market.

Amongst the subjects discussed were online gaming, regulatory processing and marketing out of state.

Officials in attendance at the session included senior staff from Cannery Casino Resorts and the Meadows.

Payne said that the goal of the ongoing hearings is to gain information and ideas from operators that run Pennsylvania's 12 casinos, in response to expansion in the neighbouring markets of New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.

One proposal discussed during the latest session was a plan to increase gaming revenue and taxes through a 24-hour alcohol service in casinos and a reduction in the number of days harness racing is offered.
