NFL Week 16 Free Pick - Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Dallas Cowboys

Dave looks at one of the featured Week 16 matchups this Sunday, an NFC matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The 5-9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers look to play the role of spoiler as seven-point road underdogs for Sunday’s matchup against the 8-6 Dallas Cowboys. Game time on FOX is 1 p.m. and Elite-rated VietBet has set the total for this NFC clash at 46 points.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 47 Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL prediction

Tampa Bay ran into a defensive wall last Sunday against Baltimore in a 20-12 loss as an 8.5-point road underdog on VietBet’s closing line. While the Buccaneers fell to 5-9 straight-up and officially out of the playoff picture in the NFC, they did improve to 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five games as part of an overall ATS record of 6-7-1. Tampa Bay is 2-1-1 ATS in its last four road games with the total going OVER in six of seven road games this year.

Whether it has been Jameis Winston or Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing the ball, the Bucs remain the top passing team in the league based on yards per game (319). The Ravens’ defense put the clamps on Winston by holding him to 156 yards passing in Sunday’s loss, but I would look for a better effort this Sunday in Dallas. One of the big issues for Tampa Bay could be a defense that is ranked well down the list in total yards allowed.

Dallas was on a clear path to the NFC East title until Sunday’s 23-0 meltdown against Indianapolis after winning its previous five games both SU and ATS. At 8-6 both SU and ATS, all the Cowboys need to clinch is one win in their last two games. The total stayed UNDER 47 points against the Colts and it has stayed UNDER in three of their last five games. Dallas is 5-2 ATS at home this season.

Dallas Cowboys NFL prediction

The one constant with the Cowboys’ somewhat inconsistent offense is the ability to run the ball behind Ezekiel Elliott. He still gained 87 yards on 18 carries in an otherwise dismal performance in Sunday’s shutout. Dak Prescott failed to bring even his B-Game to Indianapolis with 206 yards passing and zero touchdown throws against an interception and three sacks. Dallas’s defense gave up 178 yards rushing in that loss.

I went against the Cowboys as my top pick last week and I am going against them again this Sunday. They should win this game SU, but they will also find a way to keep things closer than the current seven-point spread.
